Anna Gann (soprano) and Naoko Christ-Kato (piano), the two musicians of Gernsheim Duo, present sensational finds on their GENUIN CD. The 22 lieder by Friedrich Gernsheim, which they interpret with high sensitivity and insight, are recorded here for the first time. The composer is one of those Jewish musicians who was influential before the Holocaust and is almost forgotten today. The Gernsheim Duo is committed to the musical works of such composers and deserves praise for their efforts! The historical and musical value of these lieder, which have been meticulously compiled, cannot be overestimated⁠—and the mastery of the two interpreters does them justice.

The two musicians Lenka Matĕjáková (violin) and Dariya Hrynkiv (piano) possess Slavic sound in their blood. You can hear this in the glowing recordings of their debut CD, which is dedicated exclusively to Czech composers. The two prizewinners of numerous competitions follow the stylistically diverse paths of works by Antónín Dvořák, Leoš Janáček, Josef Suk and Bohuslav Martinů down to the smallest detail. With enthusiasm and deep insight, they allow us to experience how each of the four composers uniquely unite national heritage with European culture. A musical treat!

An adventurous fusion outfit, New York's Tauk emerged in the early 2010s playing a cross-pollinated brand of jazz, funk, prog, and instrumental jam band rock. Although friends since their teens, the bandmembers came to wider attention after Tauk toured with Umphrey's McGee and released their own 2013 album, Homunculus. Favorites on the jam band circuit, Tauk keep an intense live schedule, appearing at festivals around the globe. Hailing from Oyster Bay, New York, Tauk feature guitarist Matt Jalbert, keyboardist Alric Carter, bassist Charlie Dolan, and drummer Isaac Teel. For this effort, trumpeter Doc Severinsen, in one of his rare recordings away from a big band format, teams up with the reeds of Ernie Watts, guitarist Lee Ritenour, a variety of studio musicians and a large string orchestra to perform crossover-oriented music. With arrangements contributed by producer Jeff Tyzik and Allen Vizzutti, even such songs as "My Funny Valentine," "Take The 'A' Train" and "Maiden Voyage" are transformed into rather routine, funky dance music.

Krokofant is a progressive free jazz-rock instrumental trio from Kongsberg, Bukserud, Norway, comprising guitarist Tom Hasslan, saxophonist Jørgen Mathisen, and drummer Axel Skalstad. They took their name from a mythical creature out of a popular Norwegian children's song, described as "a lumbering trumpeting beast with a fearsome array of teeth in its snapping jaws," a dead cross between an elephant and a crocodile. This was a perfect description of the band's sound on their 2014 self-titled debut. Krokofant's sound weds progressive rock influenced by King Crimson and Henry Cow, to the improvisational power of electric jazz ensembles such as Terje Rypdal's early quartet, Mahavishnu Orchestra, the improvisational chaos of Last Exit, and the mathy death metal of Meshuggah.

'Ad Hoc' is the new album by Sting s long time collaborator and guitarist Dominic Miller. A musician that Sting has long called his right and left hand. The album is recorded in Germany and featuring special guest the inspirational Eda Zari, is Dominic Miller s most impressive work to date. Zari's contribution to the anthemic Exiting Purgatory is a perfect compliment to the searing cello solos by Sweden's Lars Daniellson and forms the climax sound to an album whose textures and ambiences are as eclectic as Miller's life itself.

Better known as Sting's guitarist, Dominic Miller has put out a few solo efforts over the years, with this, his fourth, following suit. This one shows a sensitive side, with tender compositions for solo guitar throughout (with the exception of a vocal number midway through), sometimes backed up by various musician friends on drums or bass for a song or two. The sound is primarily soft rock and the like, but Miller effectively handles a dose of jazz in "Partido Alto" as well. Miller's playing is perhaps too light and cautious to really manage a solo effort. He plays as though he's still in the rhythm section rather than letting his abilities come through fully. At the same time, he has a very tender touch, welcome in its own right.

In 2016 Sarah Defrise unearthed more than twenty unpublished songs by Joseph Jongen (1873-1953), some of them preserved amongst the composer’s private papers. Such a discovery is an important event in the Belgian musical landscape. This young soprano now offers the first complete recording of these songs, of which this constitutes the first volume. We have chosen to focus on works from both the composer’s youth and his maturity. This album therefore presents an unpublished cycle of setting of poems by Armand Silvestre (1892), the famous cycle op. 25 (1902), from which the first song had always previously been missing, and a selection of later songs dating from 1909 to 1928. Jongen’s sensitive and subtle art is carried by the intelligent and luminous performance by the duo formed by Sarah with the English pianist Craig White.

Sir Karl Jenkins is one of the most performed living composers in the world. The release of Karl’s new album Miserere: Songs Of Mercy And Redemption, on 11 October, will be followed by his 75th birthday concert at the Royal Albert Hall on 13 October. His new choral masterpiece Miserere is dedicated to all who have suffered or perished during the conflicts in the Middle East over the last 70 years. Karl was motivated by the desperate situation for the millions of people displaced and impacted by the cruel effects of war and hoped the healing and uniting powers of music could be used to bring together people from different religions.

Classical guitar music has flourished in New Zealand in recent years, and Bruce Paine, among the country’s leading composers for the instrument, is one of the most imaginative and original. This album charts the course of his writing from one of his earliest pieces, the poetic, witty tone poem Sea Suite , to the recent and substantial Waitematā Reverie. Drawing on an impressionistic palette Paine conjures up chime arpeggios as well as the natural world in Oakura Chimes . The four settings of Māori folk songs were arranged expressly for this album.

After two recent incursions into the musical world of young Vivaldi, the excellent Italian violinist Enrico Gatti, together with his Ensemble Aurora, present, amazingly, a hitherto unpublished work by Johann Sebastian Bach. Using a series of arguments, set out in the cd booklet, the musicologist Francesco Zimei has reconstructed the 'lost' Flute Concerto in B minor.The inclusion of this work in the Neue Bach Ausgabe is currently being arranged. Zimei's meticulous and detailed study has as its starting point Bach's habit of reusing instrumental works for new vocal compositions.
