Though written almost contemporaneously, the violin sonatas of Richard Strauss and César Franck stem from different ends of the two composers' careers. The Strauss sonata was written while the composer was still a young man, at about the same time of his tone poem Don Juan. It is a sonata of youthful enthusiasm, still bearing the remnants of his training studying the works of the Classical and early Romantic masters while hinting at the rhythmic and tonal complexity that was to come in his more mature writing. The Franck sonata, by contrast, was written late in the composer's life and demonstrates Franck's developed style.

The Incomparable Rudolf Serkin is a two-disc set in a digi-pak format released in 2003 to coincide with the celebration of the great Austrian pianist's 100th birthday. The second disc in the set consists of two previously released performances, the first being Brahms' E minor Cello Sonata recorded at Kennedy Center with Mstislav Rostropovich as soloist, and the other is Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 16 in D, K. 451, with Claudio Abbado and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, made at the Grosser Saal Konzerthaus in Vienna. The first disc was wholly new at the time of release, featuring Serkin in the last three piano sonatas of Beethoven, also recorded in Vienna, this time at a live concert.

This record is UK's sophomore studio album. It is still very progressive, and less fusion that the previous one. Jobson's keyboards still have futuristic elements and they are sometimes intense, dramatic & floating; Jobson also uses here an omnipresent vintage organ a la ELP or Triumvirat, so that the overall sound is less modern than on the previous album…

It had to happen… This CD sees Jon Rose and Alvin Curran on terrifying form: Alvin spookily surefooted in his deployment of an often counterintuitive palette of sounds, and Jon just brilliant. This is a duo made in heaven and provides a perfect context for both - a rare combination of proper musicianship and exquisite musical thinking. And beautifully recorded.

Three generously-filled CDs include such masterpieces as the Sonata in B minor and a selection of late pieces as well as the complete "Italie" from the Années de pèlerinage.

Only Everything, David Sanborn’s second album for Decca, feels like part two of his debut for the label, 2008’s Here & Gone. That set was a tribute to Ray Charles and Hank Crawford – the alto saxophonist who played with Charles in the '50s and early '60s, and influenced Sanborn tremendously. That set featured loads of vocals and tightly arranged tunes that were indicative of the performances of Charles' bands. Only Everything delves into more of that territory, but this time, Sanborn reflects more heavily on Crawford and David “Fathead” Newman, another legendary Charles ace from roughly the same period.
