The composer (Johann Gottfried) Carl Loewe is familiar to music lovers of the 20th and 21st centuries above all as the writer of important ballad scores, of which Edward, Erlkönig, Herr Oluf and Archibald Douglas are well-known examples. His songs Die Uhr or Heinrich der Vogler were popular hits, especially in a bygone heyday of salon music and educated bourgeois culture. Loewe wrote more than 400 songs. But the same Carl Loewe also wrote six operas, two symphonies and two piano concertos as well as a total of 17 sacred and secular oratorios, all of which have fallen into oblivion.

Savage is the original 80′s Italodisco pop star, worldwide famous singer and platinum record producer of Europop and Eurodisco artists such as Corona, Alexia, Double You and Ice Mc. Composer and writer of various multimillion worldwide hits. His real name is Roberto Zanetti, a man with the passion for music since ever, started just as a hobby until he began studying the piano seriously at the age of fourteen. Shortly afterwards he got together with small music groups, such as “L’inchiesta”, “Fathima e i pronipoti” and “I sangrià”, playing keyboards. His first professional experience came about with the group “Santarosa” with whom he recorded a single, “Souvenir” that went on to sell two hundred thousand copies in Italy.

The first recording by the Pat Metheny Group features the innovative guitarist along with keyboardist Lyle Mays, bassist Mark Egan, and drummer Dan Gottlieb. The music is quite distinctive, floating rather than swinging, electric but not rockish, and full of folkish melodies. The best known of these six Metheny-Mays originals are "Phase Dance" and "Jaco." This music grows in interest with each listen.

When Pat Metheny's New Chautauqua first appeared in 1979, it was his third album for ECM, and was greeted mainly on the strength of its title track, a euphoric, uptempo, multi-layered guitar and bass folk dance. But this volume was his first true solo recording in that he played all the guitars and basses on the set. To most, the name Jean-Louis Duport is all but forgotten. Cellists will recognize his set of 21 etudes as being popular and widely used teaching tools in studios the world over, but even they may be unaware of the other contributions Duport made to their instrument. The present volume stems from 1956 studio sessions, save for the Schubert A-flat Impromptu and Schumann "Warum" encores recorded during the pianist's March, 1954 Carnegie Hall American comeback recital.
