Millenium is back with a new concept album entitled "The Web". This is a new chapter in the history of the band, who closed the last era with the album MMXVIII. The album is again sung by the irreplaceable Łukasz Gall, who wrote all the lyrics and melodic vocal lines. All tracks have been recorded by 5-person line-up being the core of the Millenium band. The web is a symbolic trap into which each of us can fall. Addiction to gambling, drugs or alcohol can lead and often leads to depression, loneliness and suicidal thoughts. The cure for this evil is friendship and love of another person. "The Web" is just such a story in which each of us can be the main character, fighting for love, peace and happiness! The super-rhythmic, ultra-melodic Argentinean-born and Brazilian-bred guitarist's fascinating musical journey makes this an explosive diary chock-full of elements of those experiences. After years working with top Brazilian musicians like Sergio Mendes and Ivan Lins, Mariano emerged as a popular smooth jazz/worldbeat artist in the mid-'90s before retreating behind the scenes as A&R director of EMI Brazil. After much success with the label, he returns to the studio on this compelling project, which blends his expertise on acoustic and electric guitars as well as keyboards and, getting even more exotic, the sitar. The rhythmically eclectic vibe here can best be described as "Rio chill," a new jazz groove reflecting the uniquely Brazilian balance of the warmth of the culture and Rio's rich cosmopolitan life.

William "Count" Basie made a major contribution to the popular success of Big Band Swing. His Orchestra had two major strengths; dynamic, inventive soloists - and a closely-knit rhythm section that swung to perfection. Basie was also a particularly gifted pianist, and a leader capable of getting maximum effort and precision from his men. This combination of forces produced electrifying results - captured for posterity in his early 78 rpm records - a further selection of which are heard here in new digital stereo - impressions which seek to reveal the full "live" impact of one of the greatest Big Bands ever assembled.

Best-known for his refined performances of Baroque and Classical music, Nikolaus Harnoncourt approaches modernism for the first time in this 2004 CD of Béla Bartók's Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta; Divertimento for String Orchestra. Refinement is still Harnoncourt's watchword in Music, for his reading is extremely polished and precise, but so cautious as to make the work seem insipid. Missing are the edginess of the dissonant counterpoint in the opening movement, percussive bite in the second, agitation in the "night music" of the third, and gusto in the fourth, all necessary to any successful performance.

Sublime Frequencies is pleased to present the second volume of Northeast Syrian dabke music from legendary vocalist Omar Souleyman and his group. This set was compiled by Mark Gergis to coincide with the Sublime Frequencies UK/European tour in May and June of 2009, featuring live performances by Omar Souleyman himself. Culled from dozens of cassettes recorded in Syria from 1999-2008, the music here is an extension of Omar's Highway to Hassake: Folk & Pop Sounds of Syria release, touching on some previously-unheard angles. Their trademark serpentine synthesizers, electrified bouzok (traditional stringed instrument) and driving rhythms forge a severe form of "new wave dabke" with a live energy and integrity that captures the essence of the Syrian Northeast; one-of-a-kind Syrian dabke party tunes, regional atabat-styled crooners, and unbelievable Iraqi party jams.
