Extending concepts from an installation piece titled Secondary Rainbow with Bryan Eubanks, Lamb employs electronics over an infinite cycle of four "environmental chords" which overlap and resonate with one another.

No one can accuse Flying Steps of resting on their laurels. Hot off the heels of ‘Flying Bach’ and ‘Flying Illusion’, the Berlin-based troupe are back with their most ambitious project to date. ‘Pictures at an Exhibition’ is seemingly a hundred things in one, a magical amalgamation of dance, music, live performance, art, history and all the rest, highlighted by the instantly recognisable visible art of Brazilian brothers OSGEMEOS. This is an exhibition come to life, a spiritual successor to Modest Mussorgsky’s 1874 work of the same name. As exciting for adults as it is invigorating for children, we can’t wait to see what Flying Steps come up with next.

Christian Escoudé is part of this small family of jazz guitarists from the gypsy milieu, his talent has allowed him to play with the greatest as Mc Laughlin, Martial Solal, John Lewis. Some unpublished notes of the music of Django Reinhardt found in the family attic are at the origin of the idea of this album. We discover tracks composed by Django, which have never been recorded or never played associated with compositions by Christian Escoudé and lyrics written by the singer Stephy Haik. Here is a new original album dedicated to the work of the great Django Reinhardt.

    Classic Rock / Glam

The album that essentially kick-started the U.K. glam rock craze, Electric Warrior completes T. Rex's transformation from hippie folk-rockers into flamboyant avatars of trashy rock & roll. There are a few vestiges of those early days remaining in the acoustic-driven ballads, but Electric Warrior spends most of its time in a swinging, hip-shaking groove powered by Marc Bolan's warm electric guitar…

When the great French composer Michel Legrand died in January of 2019, Melissa Errico could not have imagined how his spirit would come to dominate her year. Asked by The New York Times to offer the eulogy to her beloved collaborator, on Jan. 28, the Times published her long, affectionate appreciation. Not long after, she was invited to become the sole American performer to participate in the extraordinary two-day memorial to Legrand held in April at Paris’ Le Grand Rex Theatre, the Radio City Music Hall of the French capitol, and after that to participate in an equally significant memorial later in the year at London’s Royal Festival Hall.

When The Tower of Power left Warner Bros. for Epic, many felt that it was a good move. In retrospect, it proved a disaster. This second Columbia album was a marked comedown from the first, which was erratic but still contained the essential Tower ingredients — hook-laden songs, exuberant vocals, and punchy charts and instrumental support. This not only didn't have any of these elements, it was poorly produced and woefully arranged as well.

This studio album was recorded in a London studio after a series of concerts in England and Norway and really captures the essence of the trio: Webster and Lisle's energetic free jazz meets Larsen's noise and rock guitar in an exciting interaction that is dynamic, playful and hard-hitting

For his new album, pianist Risto-Matti Marin has found true forgotten gems in romantic Finnish piano music! Particularly noteworthy are the monumental sonatas by Ilmari Hannikainen and Einari Marvia. Other composers include Sibelius's teachers Martin Wegelius and Richard Faltin, whose works exude the spirit of the golden age of Central European Romanticism. Sirkka Harjunmaa, once a student of Ilmari Hannikainen's, won the second prize at the 1947 Academic Cultural Competition with her fierce etude. Harjunmaa also has a wedding march on the album. None of the album's tracks have been previously released as commercial recordings.

Russell Gunn’s multi-piece ensemble the Royal Krunk Jazz Orkestra wowed us with their last album ‘Get It How You Live’ and Pyramids follows that up with another set heavy on the Egyptian inspired spiritual jazz tip. The intense, driving force that is ‘Black Indian Rain Dance’ forges ahead with that big, bold brass section, ‘Kabla Khufu’ is more abstract yet retains structure while ‘Voyage Of The Pyramid Builders’ sounds like soundtrack. The expansive ‘Pan-Afrikan Benediction’ is a ponderous, bluesy gem, the shimmering ‘The Truth of Time’ has a dub underbelly while ‘Olmec (Xi) offers quieter moments amidst the bustle. Another great new jazz offering.

    Label: Ropeadope

Alto-saxophonist Jared Sims leads his six-piece combo through the half dozen cuts here on a set full of drive and energy. The rapid fire ‘Offerings’ finds keys and sax vying battling with the urgent drums, ‘Forces’ is sharply angular with a bluesy B-line giving the track a swagger while ‘Prophesy’ is a more improvised effort with each player given the freedom to sketch their lines at will. The slow, languid ‘Spirit’ is a ponderous number that has an East-African feel, the keys dripping in as the sax searches for a motif while ‘Gifts’ struts through with a funky groove underpinned by those crashing drums. Good set.

Although it was their sixth album overall, Tribal Tech's 1993 release, Face First, was only the second to feature the still-existing lineup of guitarist Scott Henderson, bassist Gary Willis, keyboardist Scott Kinsey, and drummer Kirk Covington. Previously, Henderson and Willis had juggled lineups and eased further away from traditional jazz toward improvisational fusion through the 1985-1991 albums Spears, Dr. Hee, Nomad, and Tribal Tech. But the quartet of musical leftists gelled on Face First, improving on its promising 1992 debut, Illicit.

Emil Hartmann (1836-1898) had a heavy family heritage to lift, being the son of one of the true greats in Danish music life, the composer and organist J.P.E. Hartmann. In Denmark, Emil Hartmann had difficulty freeing himself from his father’s shadow, but in Germany, things were easier. On this release, Elisabeth Zeuthen Schneider and friends delve into his chamber musical key works, providing the perfect showcase for the romantic flair of Emil Hartmann, making his lines sing beautifully and virtuosic passages dance, and finding intimacy and eloquence at telling moments.
