The repertoire presented by Ensemble Musagète is characterized as a quest to bring great symphonic music into the realm of chamber music in a transparent and intimate way. The success and interest that this musical offering has created in concert-goers has been gratifying and has encouraged us to continue along these lines. The musicians themselves, when placed in front of well-known scores that had been radically transformed into chamber music reacted with enthusiasm because the technical virtuosity and the transparency of the detail of these transcriptions allowed for many sections to be revived and deeply understood. From all this, the idea was born to take these transcriptions to the recording studio and give way to a series with the same title: Microcosms. From big to small. The choice of scores took place following two guidelines. The first was that of selecting contemporary transcriptions that restored the spirit of a past time period. The second was that of emphasizing transcriptions specifically created for Ensemble Musagète and custom-made for its musicians.

The Falcon and the Snowman is an album of original music for the soundtrack of the Orion Pictures film of the same title, composed and co-produced by Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays. The music is performed by the Pat Metheny Group with occasional orchestrations for strings. The exceptions are a male chorus featuring a young alto which bookends the album and "This Is Not America," a collaboration with David Bowie, credited as producer and co-composer, who performs lyrics for an arrangement of the theme heard in the track "Chris."

After making vital contributions to the ECM collaborations of Lena Willemark and Ale Moller, Swedish multi-instrumentalist and composer Mats Eden brings his folk revival sensibilities to this leader date from 1999. He joins longtime musical partner Jonas Simonson in paying homage to many great fiddlers, including Artbergs Kalle Karlstrom and Lejsme Per Larsson, and old-time masters Torleiv Bjorgum and Anders Rosen. The latter revived the use resonating strings, which Eden took on himself in developing a custom instrument called the bordunfiol, or drone-fiddle, featured prominently in Milvus.

The distinctive cry of Sokratis Sinopoulos’ Constantinople lyra has previously been heard on ECM recordings of Eleni Karaindrou (The Weeping Meadow, Elegy of the Uprooting, Medea) and Charles Lloyd/Maria Farantouri (Athens Concert). The Athens-born Sinopoulos has played a key role in the revival of interest in the lyra in Greece, both in traditional music contexts and in the shaping of new music. Sinopoulos’s reflective compositions and yearning ballads on Eight Winds cede the central melodic role to the lyra, sensitively supported by the piano of Yann Keerim and the subtle bass and drums of Dimitris Tsekouras and Dimitris Emmanuel.

A longtime Bob Margolin fan, Italian Blues musician Mike Sponza was tearing it up with his own band when he reached out to Bob to join them for a tour of Central Europe. They did ten shows in six European countries,and the combination was so magical, the music so strong that by the end of the tour it was clear they needed to go into the studio to make a record together. Blues Around the World captures that magic with original songs by Bob and by Mike as well as a couple audience favorites, and as a bonus track, Bob's acoustic take on the classic "Love In Vain."

All in One Voice is the twelfth studio album by Welsh singer Bonnie Tyler. It was released in 1998 by EastWest Records, following her previous album with EastWest, Free Spirit (1995). The album remains the least commercially successful in Tyler's career as it failed to chart worldwide. Tracks produced by Jimmy Smyth were recorded at Full Moon, Westland and Park House Studios in Dublin, Ireland. "The Reason Why" was recorded at Boogie Park Studios in Hamburg, and "I Put a Spell on You" was recorded for Mike Batt's album Philharmania at Abbey Road Studios in London. The remaining tracks were recorded at Red Deer Studios in Germany.

As many readers know, although Bach composed a number of violin concertos (and for other melody instruments), mostly during his years in Coethen (approximately 1717-1723), with respect to violin concertos, only the three represented here remain in their original form (Violin Concerto in A minor, BMV 1041; Violin Concerto in E major, BMV 1042; and the Double Violin Concerto in D Minor, BMV 1043). (The concerto for flute, violin and harpsichord in A minor, BMV 1044, not included here, also remains in its original form).

Hummingbird were a British band, formed in 1974 by Bobby Tench of The Jeff Beck Group. The band recorded three albums which were released by A&M Records in the United States of America, Canada, Australia, Japan and Europe and employed Ian Samwell as their producer. The original line-up included members of the second Jeff Beck Group, vocalist and guitarist Bobby Tench, keyboardist Max Middleton, bassist Clive Chaman, drummer Conrad Isidore and second guitarist Bernie Holland. At the start of sessions for their first album they were joined by Jeff Beck for a brief period but he did not contribute to the album and left to work on his own project. After the first album Bernie Holland was replaced by guitarist Robert Ahwai and drummer Bernard "Pretty" Purdie replaced Isidore on the next two albums, vocalists Madeline Bell and Liza Strike were brought in to complement the band.
