Freedom – No Compromise is the third solo album by Little Steven released in 1987. In 2019, the album was remastered for release as part of Van Zandt's career-spanning box set Rock N Roll Rebel: The Early Work. Count Basie defined the jazz meaning of swing. His band could get more bounce from a line that any other. And though his soloists were never of highest dazzle, they always fit the program. These live recordings from 1959, 1961 and 1962 capture the Count at his comfort. Mosaic has done its usual fine job with them on eight CDs. Roulette itself has reissued 12 of the cuts on a single CD entitled ``Basie in Sweden,`` for those who just want a taste.

The Staatsoper Berlin is back in ist place of origin: Unter den Linden! After major renovations, it reopens with Schumann’s Scenes from Goethe’s Faust, conducted by Daniel Barenboim. Under the direction of Jürgen Flimm and in the sets of acclaimed German artist Markus Lüpertz, Schumann’s orchestral work is transformed in a captivating drama. In the glow of the renovated opera hall Daniel Barenboim and the Staatskapelle Berlin perform alongside soloists such as Roman Trekel, Elsa Dreisig and René Pape. Besides the vocal parts, the main characters Faust, Gretchen and Mephistopheles are embodied by the renowned actors André Jung, Meike Droste and Sven-Eric Bechtolf.

Kind of an offshoot of the Marc Moulin world of the early 70s - the self-titled album from Plus, a group made up of musicians from the funky combo Placebo! The vibe is much more open than Placebo, but still shares lots of that group's great talent for mixing together jazz, funk, and trippy bits of prog - all in a way that's never too overindulgent, and always with a nice punch on most of the cuts - so that there's plenty of funky moments too! Drums are great, keeping things very interesting - and the horn passages run from Afro-styled lines with a nice exotic quality, to straighter jazz rock - augmented by some gritty vocals from time to time - in a raspy style that's kind of a 70s update of soulful UK mod styles of the previous generation.

The music on this album is a journey into a known, yet different world filled with magic and wonderful experiences. An enchanted garden. You open your eyes to new facets of the world you thought that you already knew. Experincing everything with new and clear eyes.
