This set pulls together all three albums from the pop-punk wannabies: Pop Art (1988), Velveteen (1989) and Little Magnets Versus The Bubble of Babble (1991). The last of those three is still unreleased in the UK on CD, so this is its debut on the format over here. Each long-player here comes with non-album bonus tracks and then three further CDs offer a wealth of seven-inch versions and extended remixes.

Beck's is back with a new album Hyperspace. The album is 11 (12 ion Target Edition) tracks and features Sky Ferreira, Terrell Hines and Chris Martin. In addition, Pharrell Williams co-wrote and / or produced seven of the songs giving it real Floyd flavour - not as poppy as the last album but with that trademark Beck feel. Other production credits come from Cole M.G.N., Greg Kurstin and Paul Epworth.

Quite possibly the greatest Larry Young album of the post-Blue Note years – and a massive bit of funk that totally redefines his sound! Larry's working here with his hip group Fuel – an ensemble that features Laura Logan on lead vocals, giving the tunes a real focus through her lyrics – and letting them pack a bit more punch too, since her voice sounds a lot like Betty Davis at the time! Larry's keyboards are forceful, but never too over the top – and he's notched things down a bit to focus on the overall groove of the set – still keeping things adventurous on the keys, but also working in a mode that's much more heavily jazz funk! The album's one of THE essential electric jazz sets of the 70s – and features the classic break cut "Turn Out the Lights" – plus other great tracks that include "Floating", "Fuel for the Fire", "I Ching", "H+J=B (Hustle + Jam = Bread)" and "New York Electric Street Music".

Set against the magnificent backdrop of Lake Constance, every production at the Bregenz Festival faces strong natural competitors. But with this first-ever production of Verdi’s “Aida” (in an abridged version) on the lakeside stage, it is easy to overlook the beauty of the surrounding nature. Stage director Graham Vick and set designer Paul Brown conjure up an “open-air spectacle of superlatives” (Die Zeit) that throws a bridge between ancient Egypt and today’s U.S..

Shirley Scott was one of the Prestige family's most widely recorded artists, and for good reason: the organ's popularity was peaking during her years at the label and Scott handled what could be an overbearing instrument with sure-handed tastefulness and a jaunty sense of swing. Less well known, though, is her work on piano, which shares the spotlight on the two LPs joined herein. Both were made in 1960 for the Prestige subsidiary Moodsville, whose specialties were warming ballads and medium-bounce standards that placed a premium on melodic content. On these 16 trio tracks, widely familiar tunes, for the most part, Scott sustains Moodsville's trademark relaxed, after-hours groove, whether she's at the organ or piano (her stylings on the latter evince strong ties to Erroll Garner)–or, via overdubbing, performing on both simultaneously.

Following the departure of keyboardist and founder Rick van der Linden, the Dutch band Ekseption took a rapid downhill turn under new leader Hans Jansen. Unlike the earlier mix of classics, rock, and jazz, this edition of the band seems absolutely directionless…

Chute Libre was a french jazz band that released two fusion records with pronounced funk sound. Before Chute Libre, three members also played in a fusion band called Moravagine; keyboardist Olivier Huntman, sax player Pierre-Jean Gidon and the drummer Mino Cinelu who is a member of Gong and Weather Report.

Jean-Luc Votano, principal clarinet of the Liège Royal Philharmonic (OPRL), here presents a work by a ‘classic’ figure of the twentieth century, the Kammerkonzert for clarinet, string quartet and string orchestra of Karl Amadeus Hartmann (1930), along with two compositions of the twenty-first: Magnus Lindberg’s Clarinet Concerto, of which Votano gave the Belgian premiere with the OPRL, and Fantasme – Cercles de Mana by Johan Farjot. The latter work, scored for clarinet, viola, cello and orchestra, here receives its world premiere on disc before being performed to a concert hall audience. An album that admirably reflects the virtuosity and musicality of one of the OPRL’s principal soloists.
