Love & Evol (stylized as LφVE & EVφL) is the twenty-fifth studio album by Japanese experimental band Boris, released 4 October 2019 on Third Man Records. The band describes the release as two distinct but interconnected works, bearing the titles LφVE and EVφL respectively, "encapsulating conflicting connotations that interweave and become intricately entangled with one another, gradually eroding before becoming utterly singular." The release was intended to illustrate the different extremes of the sounds Boris has explored previously in their discography, and as a counterpoint to their darker and more aggressive previous album Dear.

A unique strictly limited (500 only!) three CD set! This collection of pre-war Blues, Country, and Folk, expertly compiled illustrates the beginnings of what we now call AMERICANA. Disc one highlights Blues, disc 2 Country, and disc 3 Folk.

Pigmalione was Gaetano Donizetti’s first opera, written to a libretto by Simeone Antonio Sografi in just two weeks when he was 19. Donizetti himself defined Pigmalione as a 'lyrical scene'. It was his only work to be based on a mythological subject and tells the story of a sculptor whose statue comes alive. The main role is sung by Antonino Siragusa, who gives a masterful interpretation with his polished and colourful voice, especially in the substantial recitatives. Japanese soprano Aya Wakizono gives an excellent performance in the role of Galatea, her enticing voice well suited to the demands of the short part.

Tubby Hayes was a superior tenor saxophonist from England who played in the tradition of Zoot Sims and Al Cohn, with just a dash of Johnny Griffin and early John Coltrane. This CD finds Tubby holding his own with a top-notch swinging rhythm section (pianist Horace Parlan, bassist George Duvivier, and Dave Bailey) along with guests Clark Terry (on four of the ten selections) and vibraphonist Eddie Costa (on three songs). Whether it be an up-tempo rendition of "Airegin" or a tender "You're My Everything," Tubby Hayes shows that he is an underrated legend. The original six selections are joined by four equally rewarding unreleased performances.

Singer Bonnie Tyler is at it again with this full-length offering titled Angel Heart. A lot of the American public might know her best for her work with big stars like Meat Loaf, but she had made a place for herself in the music world with a solo career as well, long before the United States and her duets with others. Tyler has landed huge hits with songs like "Total Eclipse of the Heart," "Holding Out for a Hero," and "It's a Heartache." On this album, Angel Heart, fans will find a pleasing mixture of ballads and upbeat pop that showcases the wonderful, husky voice of this singing star. Some of the top-notch tracks on this offering included "Race to the Fire," "Fools Lullaby," and "All We Have Is Tonight." A great album to add to any rock collection.

I have seen the Tale's performance of these quartets described as "too on edge"; I cannot agree, and believe that this young quartet brings out the subtle beauty and nuances of Schnittke's music perfectly. There is real violence and grief in these quartets, certainly - especially the remarkable Second Quartet. But there are tender stretches of music, too; and the Tales have more than the musical wit needed to negotiate their way around and through Schnittke's strong contrasts in tone and mood.

British Light Music Classics 1 (CDA66868) was one of the best-selling CDs of 1996 and put lots of smiles on people's faces. In fact it is still—late January—in the charts. Its success has inspired this second disc which contains another 20 well-known favourites spanning the century, the earliest being Bucalossi's Grasshopper's Dance from 1905 and Herman Finck's In the Shadows from 1910. Once again many of the pieces will be familiar as radio and TV signature tunes—to 'Down Your Way', 'Dr Finlay's Casebook', 'TV Newsreel', 'The Archers' and, from the 1940s, 'In Town Tonight', the first broadcast of which brought tens of thousands of requests to the BBC for the name of the introductory music, Eric Coates's march Knightsbridge.

Bud Powell was unquestionably a major talent. Sadly, he was also unquestionably mad. The legend of the tortured, tragic jazz genius exists because of people like Charlie Parker and Bud Powell. Both are bebop legends, among the greatest of the greats, founding fathers of the genre. Both were brought down by drugs and mental illness—Parker at 34, Powell at 41.

A fully authorised box set celebrating Gentle Giant’s back catalogue titled Unburied Treasure is to be released on December 6 through Madfish. The limited edition collection will be spread across 30-discs and contain all 11 of the band’s studio albums, along with 15 live concerts – seven of which have never previously been released, while a further seven have never been officially released.
