When one hears this early Eddie Daniels CD (a straight reissue of the original LP), it is surprising to realize that he would remain in relative obscurity for almost another 20 years. As shown on the three of the eight selections on which he plays clarinet, Daniels (even at this early stage) ranked near the top, while his tenor playing on the remaining numbers was already personal and virtuosic. With the assistance of the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis rhythm section of the time (pianist Roland Hanna, bassist Richard Davis and drummer Mel Lewis), Daniels is in top form on three standards, four originals and the pop tune "Spanish Flea."

Mildred Anderson, who recorded with organist Bill Doggett as early as 1953, only made two albums as a leader and, although thought of as as being in the R&B/blues field, both records have some notable jazz players supporting her. For this CD reissue, Anderson is joined by tenor-saxophonist Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis, organist Shirley Scott, bassist George Duvivier and drummer Arthur Edgehill for such songs as "Hello Little Boy," "Person to Person" and "Kidney Stew Blues" (the latter two tunes were associated with Eddie "Cleanhead" Vinson). Despite being rather brief (just 31 minutes), this set is worth checking out if quite obscure.

The Jazz Club series is an attractive addition to the Verve catalogue. With it's modern design and popular choice of repertoire, the Jazz Club is not only opened for Jazz fans, but for everyone that loves good music.
"Soul Brother Number One," "the Godfather of Soul," "the Hardest Working Man in Show Business," "Mr. Dynamite" - those are mighty titles, but no one can question that James Brown earned them more than any other performer. Other singers were more popular, others were equally skilled, but few other African-American musicians were so influential over the course of popular music. And no other musician, pop or otherwise, put on a more exciting, exhilarating stage show: Brown's performances were marvels of athletic stamina and split-second timing…

In 2016, the Swedish riff legends rise again to show their teeth… and swords! "Sword Songs", the title of their eighth album, summarizes the band's intention: head of the band, JB, says the album would be faster and more aggressive than "Triumph And Power", and he adds that the album contains some ferocious songs. Grand Magus put all their passion, all their blood, sweat and tears into »Sword Songs«, and the result is nothing less than the best and heaviest Grand Magus album of all time. Produced by Nico Elgstrand in Studio Supa, Stockholm, "Sword Songs" offers a load of future classics that will move fans to tears with their powerful grooving rhythm machine, mighty riff walls and JB's distinctive voice…

The complete recorded output, on a 3CD Deluxe Boxed Edition, by Louis Armstrong and The Dukes Of Dixieland - for the first time ever in a single collection. This collection contains both the master takes and all the alternates. Half of this music appears here on CD for the first time ever. These original LPs “The Definitive Album by Louis Armstrong” (1959) and “Louis and the Dukes of Dixieland” (1960) were among the first stereo recordings to fully capture Louis’ magic sound. His trumpet playing & vocals were as fine as ever - on classic songs that weren’t part of his usual repertoire, such as “Dixie”, “New Orleans” and “Sweet Georgia Brown”, which he had never previously recorded.

24bit/96kHz digitally remastered with original LP replica cardboard sleeve. A compelling title – as the record was recorded at Nola Penthouse Studios in New York, one of the hippest places to lay down tracks at the time – but the cover shows an image of the Playboy building in Chicago, famous from the TV show Playboy's Penthouse, Hugh Hefner's first foray into television! The actual music is equally compelling too – as the record is one of Ahmad's first non-trio sessions, and features some great larger arrangements from Joe Kennedy – backing the trio of Jamal, Vernel Fournier, and Israel Crosby with some light strings that create a wonderfully dreamy feel! Ahmad's piano glides along wonderfully in such a setting – set free a bit more than usual, and really sounding great on tracks that include "Ivy", "Comme Ci, Comme Ca", "Tangerine", "Never Never Land", "Ahmad's Blues", and "Seleritus".

Monster funk from Hammond hero Reuben Wilson – an album of hard-burning, bad-walking tunes that are a fair bit different than most of his other work! Although Wilson recorded some pretty traditional organ jazz for the Blue Note and Groove Merchant labels, this album has him working with his "Cost Of Living" group – a combo who only recorded this one album, and which includes Richard Tee on keyboards, Bad Bascomb on bass, Bernard Purdie on drums, and both Houston Person and Pee Wee Ellis on tenor sax! Most cuts have some sort of vocals – sung by either Sammy Turner or Kenny Williams, both of whom really fit the badass spirit of the record, and bring in a nice range of deeper themes from the 70s.

Joseph Marx was and is a unique one-man occurrence in Austrian music history, a composer of lavishly, sumptuously, and opulently set orchestral music as well as of tender piano songs with an impressionistic touch. His principal strengths lay in both genres; he was a declared lyricist who was not drawn very much to the dramatic mode – a diagnosis corroborated by the fact that he did not compose a single opera. Marx spent his youth in the southern Styrian natural landscape and – as the grandson of an Italian grandmother – on romantic country estates in Italy.
