Chopin wasn’t one for endowing his compositions with poetic titles. Unlike his contemporary Robert Schumann, the composer kept the titles of his work fairly simple, with no literary references such as those found in the poetic evocations of Carnaval or Kinderszenen to assist the imagination. But when, in the mid-1830s, Chopin presented a new piece naming it “Ballade,” Schumann noted that Chopin was the first to apply this literary term to a musical work. What was the nature of this new genre for solo piano? What kind of story was it telling?

Londonbeat is a British-based American R&B and dance band who scored a number of pop and dance hits in the early 1990s. Londonbeat's career started in the Netherlands where "There's a Beat Going On" reached the Top 10, and then "9 A.M. (The Comfort Zone)" which subsequently became a modest success in the United Kingdom. They are best known for their song "I've Been Thinking About You", which hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and the Hot Dance Music/Club Play charts in 1991, and for their close harmonies.

The debut studio album by Princess Stéphanie of Monaco was originally released as "Besoin", "Stephanie" (untitled) and "Live Your Life", depending on territory. All versions include the same 9 core tracks, but track sequence varies and different combinations of French/English versions are included. CD's also include remixes. Later CD re-releases were retitled ("L'Album D'Or", "Rendez-Vous", "Ouragan", "Dance With Me") but include the same tracks as the original 1986 CD's. Besoin reached number six at the French Albums Chart and the Swedish Albums Chart, number twelve at the German Albums Chart, and number 59 at the Austrian Albums Chart. It reportedly sold in approximately 1.5 million units, and achieved gold status in France for over 100,000 units. Despite the success of her first album, Stéphanie did not make a follow-up for five years until the release of Stéphanie in 1991.

James Levine's conducting of this work is magnificent. You can just see the passion that he brings forth for this opera. He is paired with a very talented group of singers in the principal roles. Both Agnes Baltsa and José Carreras are doing a brilliant job with both their singing and acting. They both have a stage presence that very few can beat. Agnes Baltsa possesses a crystal clear voice, but she can also belt if that's what it takes to make the final outcome more believable. José Carreras' voice contains so much beauty; it's full of emotions, sensual and with that irresistible hint of honey. Like Baltsa he can also sacrifize beauty to enhance his performance.

John Lee Hooker was an American blues singer, songwriter, and guitarist. The son of a sharecropper, he rose to prominence performing an electric guitar-style adaptation of Delta blues. Hooker often incorporated other elements, including talking blues and early North Mississippi Hill country blues. He developed his own driving-rhythm boogie style, distinct from the 1930s–1940s piano-derived boogie-woogie. Hooker was ranked 35 in Rolling Stones 2015 list of 100 greatest guitarists.

The World Kora Trio is American cellist Eric Longsworth, kora player Cherif Soumano from Mali, and French percussionist David Mirandon. Their music is the encounter of cultures from three continents, “World music” in the truest sense. The colors of African music embodied by the kora resonate with the jazz and folk universe of the electric cello, and the varied percussions add spice and rhythmic vitality. The compositions are original, brought alive by constant improvisation and interaction, and the pleasure these three musicians have to be on stage together is palpable. Jazz, folk, rock, Maghreb flavours and blues come together with African tradition to create music without borders. Based in France, the World Kora Trio has toured in Canada, Mexico and Europe, and has played notably in Mali, Moldavia, Corsica, and Poland.
