The opera was based on the play Le roi s'amuse by Victor Hugo and is perceived to be the first of Verdi’s great masterpieces of his mid-to-late career. This performance features a top-class cast, led by Nino Machaidze and Leo Nucci.
Nucci simply owns the role of Rigoletto…a master-class in vocal acting…Machaidze is the very embodiment of Gilda. Her characterization is simply marvellous…[she] has a lovely full tone - this is no canary Gilda - with 'Caro nome' poised and emotional…The supporting cast is excellent…I was highly impressed by Massino Zanetti's conducting. Esoteric Recordings is proud to announce the release of a new expanded and re-mastered 2 CD edition of the classic album “Alchemy” by THIRD EAR BAND. One of the first releases on EMI’s progressive rock label, Harvest in July 1969, “Alchemy” was the debut album by THIRD EAR BAND. One of the earliest signings to Harvest, the band was formed in 1968 around a nucleus of GLEN SWEENEY (percussion), PAUL MINNS (Oboe), RICHARD COFF (Violin, Viola) and MEL DAVIS (cello). Third Ear Band were unique in their exploration of exotic baroque music fused with experimental rock. Signing to Blackhill Enterprises in 1969, the quartet opened for many of the legendary Hyde Park free concerts by Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones and Blind Faith.

Otis Redding helped define soul music in 1966 with Complete & Unbelievable: The Otis Redding Dictionary Of Soul. The album, which peaked at #5 on the U.S. R&B charts, was once praised by critic Jon Landau as: "The finest record ever to come out of Memphis and certainly the best example of modern soul ever recorded." Redding recorded his fifth studio album, The Otis Redding Dictionary Of Soul, at Stax Studios in Memphis. Together with Booker T. & the M.G.'s, pianist Isaac Hayes and the Memphis Horns, Redding recorded 12 songs for the album, including the all-time classics, "Try A Little Tenderness" and "Fa-Fa-Fa-Fa-Fa (Sad Song)." To celebrate the 50th anniversary of this landmark recording, Rhino has released a two-disc edition that includes remastered mono and stereo mixes of the album, plus eight bonus tracks.

The Tailgators' music has always been rooted in American rock. For this effort they reach into the swamp country of Louisiana and come out with some smokin' zydeco. The title track "Hog Groove," which is also the first on the album, is a hot tune. Don Leady's accordion licks sound as if zydeco music has been in his blood all his life; he's a natural. Even though the solos are not complex, they are certainly soulful and melodic. The rhythm section keeps the beat strong and very danceable. Variety is a key word in describing this record. On "Tico Tico," one finds a neat Latin-flavored instrumental with hints of a surf influence coming from the lead guitar phrasings…

Gary Boyle formed the jazz-rock band, Isotope, in 1973, recruiting three other stalwarts from the jazz field; Nigel Morris, Brian Miller & Jeff Clyne (ex Nucleus). Gary and Nigel had previously been part of Stomu Yamash'ta's band, East Wind. Prior to that, Gary had worked with Dusty Springfield, Brian Auger & Julie Driscoll. Isotope released three albums during the mid 70s, which gained wide acclaim and favourable comparisons with John McLaughlin's Mahavishnu Orchestra. This compilation is comprised of an Isotope BBC concert and an Old Grey Whistle Test show, plus a Gary Boyle session recorded for John Peel. None of these recordings have ever been released before. The accompanying 8 page booklet includes a brief note from Gary Boyle plus extensive liner notes, including an interview with Gary, and several rare band photographs.

This is the debut album by Polish Jazz violinist/composer Aleksandra Kutrzepa recorded in a quartet setting with guitarist Bartłomiej Garczyński, bassist Michał Studniarek and drummer Robert Kutrzepa. Vocalist Anna Gadt and pianist Patryk Czyżewski appear as guests on selected tracks. The album presents eight original compositions, all by Aleksandra Kutrzepa.

"Mermaid" is the second album of Aleksandra Kutrzepa Quartet. The music of the quartet combines elements of modern jazz with illustrative music. The synthesis of both these trends with elements of free jazz full of unlimited space will take listeners on a journey to the world of the authors' imagination. The album contains 7 compositions. As with the first album, each song is a separate musical image. The idea is to "paint the music" with sound and imagination. Instruments become a tool for obtaining colors illustrating onomatopoeic sounds. Space, infinity, non-obviousness and color impressions are the terms that best describe the album and its creators. As with the debut album, Anna Gadt took part in the recordings. In one of the songs we will also hear the pianist - Miłosz Bazarnik.

A solo piano performance by the acclaimed master of the flamenco/jazz piano. Chano Dominguez (born Sebastian Dominguez Lozano; 29 March 1960, Cadiz) is a Spanish Latin jazz, post bop and flamenco pianist. He began in the progressive rock group CAI before moving on to jazz.Dominguez's initial interest in jazz came from jazz fusion groups like Mahavishnu Orchestra or Weather Report, but later he became interested in Bill Evans and Thelonious Monk.

And The Neighbors is an acoustic duo inspired by the sounds of Appalachia blended with the sonic grit of the Lower East Side. Debra DeMuth’s voice with an emotive, old-time resonance is featured vocally and Dave Houghton (of indie-rock groups, Fancy Trash and The Reejers), adds a dissonant vocal harmony along with his well-mastered guitar playing which can sway from delicate to furious strumming in an instant. Banjo, mandolin, autoharp, cigar box guitar, piano and organ, as well as chains and cello fill out their alt-country, folk pop sound.

The fourth volume in The Fibonacci Sequence’s acclaimed series of CD’s focussing on a solo instrument. In this case it’s the turn of the oboe, featuring Christopher O’Neal. The Fibonacci Sequence is now well established as one of the finest chamber ensembles in Britain. This witty collection of music for oboe and chamber ensemble, highlights, as oboist Christopher O’Neal describes “the humour of Françaix, the irony of Poulenc, the brilliance of Crusell and the easy charm of Alwyn.” But, he adds, “the two Mozart pieces have it all, and in spades!”

Eternal Wanderers is a progressive rock band from Moscow, formed by the Kanevsky sisters in 1997. Since the very beginning of their activity the musicians have been working with complex musical structures, trying to reproduce in sound everything that they love in progressive rock. In 1998 the band gave their first concert, after which they became an essential part of Moscow's underground scene, attracting the people with the uncommonness of their live performances, like using psychedelic slide shows on a big screen behind the stage. In 2006 the band's lineup finally stabilized, EW entered the studio to record their first full-length album. In 2008 they released their debut album "The Door to a Parallel World". "So Far and So Near" is their second full-length effort, was issued by MALS Records in the summer of 2011. Next studio album "The Mystery Of The Cosmic Sorrow" was released March 1, 2016. The third album of the Moscow group - is the mix of art-psychedelic rock, electronics and sympho-electronic experiment.

One of the most sought-after pianists of her generation, South Korean pianist Hie-Yon Choi first appeared on the international piano music scene when she won prizes at high-profile competitions such as Kapell, Epinal, Busoni and Viotti. Hie-Yon Choi has been since performing with prestigious orchestras of Europe, US and Korea such as das Rundfunkorchester Berlin, the National Symphony Orchestra (Washington DC), the Northern Sinfonia, the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra and the Korean Broadcast Symphony Orchestra and appears as a soloist in festivals and concert series.

After calling it ‘a wonderful album in all respects’, the magazine Diapason concluded its review of Suite Case Violin Duos from Vivaldi to Sollima (A448) with the question, ‘When can we look forward to the second volume?’ In this new project, the violin of Stefano Barneschi gives way to the cello of Giovanni Sollima, the multi-talented musician from Palermo featured here not only as a composer. On this new journey, again beginning with Antonio Vivaldi, Giovanni Sollima and Chiara Zanisi travel between early and modern music, between classical and folk (the Old Scots Tunes of Francesco Barsanti), with two previously unrecorded gems by the Roman composer Giovanni Battista Costanzi. The entire recording is punctuated by tracks taken from Suite Case, a cycle composed especially by Sollima for this project.
