Conceived in late 2013 and inspired by the likes of John Zorn and Frank Zappa, Sydney-based 7-piece Facemeat is abrasive, uncompromising, and unsettling. Rooted somewhere near the transgressive art tradition, its upcoming album “Questions For Men” deals with the more abject elements of modern masculinity, such as violence, jealousy, anxiety and rage. Facemeat weaves tales of the most abject facets of love and lust, angst and ennui over restless rhythms and through sickly harmonies. The music engages and unsettles, whilst its vocal lurches between soft, calming crooning and feverish, manic ranting. A typical Facemeat experience begins with a feeling of unease, is then yanked down to a dank, desperate place before being launched home towards triumph and elation. No two shows are alike and Facemeat is as much vile pantomime as it is concert.

With the Australian guitarist Dave SATTOUT as mastermind and author of all the songs, the band lends toward the light side of avant-jazz mentioning john ZORN and Frank ZAPPA as influencers. David Sattout has composed the soundtrack of a short movie The Gardener in year 2000 and has released a full solo album Jukebox in 2013. The band is currently a sextet with Adam MOSES as vocalist, Ruth WELLS and Ellen KIRKWOOD at sax and trumpet. In particular Ruth has helped kicking off a music school in Ethiopia and has toured in middle-east including Palestina. Both are releasing on their owns and together in the Sirensbigband project. The durmmer Miles THOMAS is an eclectic artist who has just released a solo album as guitarist: Indoor Cowboy. The Keyboardist Byron Mark is very well known as performer but there are few information about him around. The band is completed by the bassist Josh AHEARN who other than Facemeat has played in bands like Killsong, Squat Club and The Bird's Robe Collaboration Band. In brief a super(avantjazzy)group from Sydney.
