Hyphy Hitz is a 2007 hip-hop compilation CD released by TVT Records. It highlights the hyphy sub-genre of rap music, made famous in the Bay Area of the United States in Northern California by the likes of Keak The Sneak, E-40, and many others. This was released on 9 January, 2007.

On last year's Doctor's Advocate, cocky Compton rapper The Game anointed himself the king of California, the West Coast savior and Dre's rightful heir. Of course, it was ludicrous to claim the regional rap scene needed to be saved. The area bubbles over with underground talent. Hyphy Hitz compiles the Bay Area heads making noise with hyphy, a revelatory descendent of crunk swathed in carnivalesque synths and elastic melodies. The best part is hearing rappers with equally elastic elocution spit simple but effective party raps about getting dumb and wearing stunner shades. Some choice tracks are missing here, like the Federation's "18 Dummy," and the awkward inclusion of non-Bay Area artists – like Da Muzicianz (who ruin the track "Go Dumb") and recently incarcerated Texas rapper Twisted Black – weighs down the compilation. Hyphy doesn't need ringers.

Where crunk is a hit-hot style that under various subtitles spans the entire South, hyphy has been confined to the Bay Area. So give it up to TVT for showcasing twenty hyphy tracks that stand as proud, if not quite as tall, as the bangers on its two Crunk Hits comps. With the joy it takes in what Da Muzicianz call "going dumb," hyphy is the funniest hip-hop ever – stoopid rather than sexay. From A'z's nonsensical "Yadadamean" to Keak Da Sneak and the Farm Boyz's hickoid "AllnDoe" and the D.B.'z's Family Guy-meets-Droopy Dog "Stewy," the best of these songs get around by joking around. Because the beats are very electro – no power chords or soul samples – the dealer hype can get tedious fast when everything else isn't just right. But most of these rhymes celebrate the release of using inebriants rather than the rewards that come from selling them. And that – puritans be damned – is an improvement and a relief.
