About Himekami:
Himekami was the group formed by Japanese musician Yoshiaki Hoshi who born in 1946, sometimes accompanied by the other musicians, including his son the synthesizer player Yoshiki Hoshi and vocalists Wakako Nakajima, Tomoko Fujii, Junko Shiwa, and Yoriko Sano. Yoshiaki Hoshi first came into prominence in 1971, winning the Victor Electronic organ contest. He started his musical group in 1980 and named it Himekami Sensation, The name is derived from Mount Himekami (means "Goddess") in Morioka, Iwate Prefecture. His first record appeared in 1981. In 1984 "Sensation" was dropped from the name and it became simply "Himekami". The music was basically electronic New-Age with sounds of nature and elements of traditional Japanese music, especially dedicated to the northeast Jomon civilization, as well as using music to describe the beauty of Japanese landscape.
Jomon origin - the early Japanese culture combined both northeast and southwest civilization. He has been working hard to elevate Jomon culture into the mainstream as Yayoi civilization, to enable people to pay the same respect and appreciation as himself. In his music, the Jomon he represented has always been regarded as barbaric, primitive, dull side amount Japanese, although it is the birthplace of Japan's most peaceful period in the history - The Hiraizumi era, also the birthplace of magical works like Tono Monogatari, and the famouse writer like Kenji Miyazawa. In his music, Himekami constantly talking about the love for his homeland, and the recognition and memory of the past glory.
Himekami's music is as famous in Japan as Kitaro's - the later has been referred as Godfather of New Age. if Kitaro's music is the masterpieces for pure thought provoking, then Yoshiaki Hoshi's music is inherent the deep quality - the soul of his beloved nation.
