Jan Vogler presents his 2nd recording of Schumann's Cello Concerto (1st recording on Edel, 2001) but this time with his own orchestra, the Dresden Festival Orchestra, that consists of more than 50 members from Europe's most renowned early music ensembles.

Playing on gut strings in this recording, Vogler explores Schumann's "original sound" which is emphasized even more as the orchestra are playing on period instruments, who also perform Schumann's second symphony.

Jan Vogler is one of today’s most renowned soloists, praised for his “soulful, richly hued playing“ (New York Times) and his “spiralling virtuosity“ (Gramophone Magazine).
A prolific and multi-award-winning recording artist, Jan records exclusively for SONY Classical. Other recent CD’s include “Tchaikovsky”, “Concerti a Venezia” with La Folia Baroque Orchestra, the Schumann album “Dichterliebe” with Hélène Grimaud, and his critically acclaimed and award-winning recording of “Bach’s Six Suites for Unaccompanied Cello” (2012).

Jan Vogler frequently performs with leading international orchestras including New York Philharmonic, Boston, Pittsburgh and Montreal Symphony Orchestra, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Deutsche Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg as well as Orchestra dell'Accademia di Santa Cecilia and collaborates with conductors such as Andris Nelsons, Fabio Luisi, Sir Antonio Pappano, Valery Gergiev, Thomas Hengelbrock, Manfred Honeck and Kent Nagano.

Jan Vogler has been Artistic Director of the Moritzburg Festival near Dresden since 2001, and Intendant of the Dresden Music Festival since October 2008. In 2006, he received the European Award for Culture and in 2011 the Erich-Kästner Award for tolerance, humanity and international understanding.
