    Born in Tiflis, Georgia (1931), Dmitri Bashkirov studied with Anastasia Virsaladze before moving to Moscow to work with Russian pianist, Alexander Goldenweiser at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory. He has been a prominent performer since his career was launched as winner of the 1956 Grand Prix at the Marguerite Long Competition in Paris. Following his Paris success, he appeared with numerous international orchestras, including the Chicago Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic, the Vienna Symphony, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, the Israel Philharmonic, l'Orchestre de Paris and Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra. Today he performs worldwide and leads master classes in Europe and the United States. He has served as juror at leading piano competitions, including the Busoni, Leeds and Santander. He holds a professorship at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory, as well as the Escuela Superior de Musica Reina Sofia in Madrid. Mr. Bashkirov was named Honorary People's Artist of Russia, and won the special Robert Schumann medal in Zwickau as well as the Honorary Medal of the Autonomous University in Madrid. Mr. Bashkirov records with Erato, Melodia, EMI, Russian CD and Harmonia Mundi.
