The sole, eponymous album of this great progressive band was released in May 1970 by the Danish Sonet Records as a pressing of just 1000 copies (and today worth about 500 euros in top condition). lt’s worth noting that Puggaard-Muller brothers previously played in great Delta Blues Band. The music of Pan was an ambitious mixture of heavy rock sounds with folk, jazz and classical music and was characterized by great English (and some French) vocals from Robert Lelievre (who sadly committed suicide in 1973), fluid tasteful guitar parts, atmospheric Hammond phrases and loose, but solid rhythm section. This tightly arranged and beautifully produced LP is now regarded as one of the very best rock albums ever recorded in Denmark. Unfortunately, the band broke up in Spring 1971.

Robert Lelièvre (1 October 1942 – 26 August 1973) was a French singer, songwriter and guitar player. He is mostly remembered for being a member of the late 1960s Danish / English / French folk rock trio Cy, Maia & Robert (with Cy Nicklin and Maia Aarskov), and for fronting early '70s Danish progressive rock band Pan (feat. Thomas Puggaard-Müller, Henning Verner, Arne Würgler, Michael Puggaard-Müller; and later Jens Elbøl, Torben Enghoff, and Nils Tuxen). PAN - PAN (1970)
Pan's sole album release is an impressive early piece of heavy progressive rock with a touch of blues/hard rock and folk influences at its finest. The tone of the album manages to contrast both the heavy with the melancholy perfectly. Emotional vocals by Robert Lelièvre (who also wrote all the songs, except "If") lend the tunes a somewhat dark, moody feel. His distinctive vocals (sung mostly in English, with two songs sung in his native French) range from the angry and frustrated to yearnful and contemplative. Thomas Puggaard-Müller's spirited guitar work plays between both the powerful and the subtle, and is occasionally somewhat reminiscent of David Gilmour. The acoustic guitar-dominated sections provide folk flair and just for variety, some jazzy moments in which a vibraphone is heard, add yet another level to the already impressive variety of styles on display. There are great emotive splashes of organ/piano by Henning Verner, and throbbing proficient bass from Arne Würgler. Michael Puggaard-Müller's skilful yet unobtrusive drumming drives along all ten songs, and it's all over in just less than 40 minutes – the way all great albums should be.
