Just a short time after the release of "Unlimited Love," the Peppers released "Return of the Dream Canteen," the next album produced by Rick Rubin. The band about it

"We set out to find ourselves as the band we've kind of always been. For the fun of it, we jammed and learned some old songs. It didn't take long and we started the mysterious process of writing new songs. A wonderful mix of various influences that we have encountered hundreds of times along the way. Once we found the flow of sound and vision, we just kept building. As time turned into an elastic waistband of oversized underwear, we had no reason to stop writing and rocking. It felt like a dream. When it was all said and done, our whimsical love for each other and the magic of music had gifted us with more songs than we knew what to do with. Well, we figured it out.
