Uli Jon Roth 1973 made his debut in the rock scene at Scorpions when he replaced Michael Schenker on lead guitar, which surpassed the British space rock legends UFO. For many hard rock fans Scorpions were never again as well as at the time when Roth wrote most of the songs. 1978 left Roth of the Scorpions and earned a reputation as one of the best guitarists of the international rock scene in the episode with his power trio electric Sun. Especially with his virtuoso solo deposits, the native Düsseldorf sensation, his vocal contributions could keep up da hard. From the 1980s it became quiet around the man with long blond hair and the fancy wardrobe who retreated to his palace in Wales and dealt more with new age and classical music. He only appeared on the stage of international rock music in the late 1990s in again when he followed an invitation of Joe Satriani for the G3 tour.
That he not has forgotten the guitar in the meantime, Uli Jon Roth impressively proved in June 2001, when he gave with invited guests from the great era of rock together before the English Castle Donington, scene of legendary hard rock and heavy metal concerts. As guests he had invited as former cream bassist Jack Bruce and the almost complete original cast of UFO, strings Mage Michael Schenker included.
The concert begins with pieces from Roth's time with electric Sun, then enter the stage UFO and let it RIP with Roth at her classic "Let It Roll" tremendously. A great moment for any fan of extended guitar solos is to observe how are the two brilliant string technician Schenker (the Rauschebart, sunglasses and shorts looks like Santa Claus on summer vacation) and mutually the balls throw Roth at "Rock Bottom", motive each other pick up on and develop. The appearance of Jack Bruce the cream classics "Sunshine Of Your Love" and "White Room" can then for a moment the super group during the 1960s are back to life. The amazing: Roth and Bruce had rehearsed for this show not once - and legendary bassist uncertainty about that fact initially in the face is written. The experiment succeed but excellent: a clear sign of Roth's amazing ability to adapt to other musicians.
After Bruce again left the stage, gives free rein Roth his passion for the music of Jimi Hendrix and provides his virtuoso technique "All Along The Watchtower" and "Little Wing" proved that played while not unusual, but also by no means bad sound on Roth's special angefertigter guitar. The concert event finally finds the climax in the improvised "Fireworks Jam", with the Roth wanted to bridge only the period until the start of the final Fireworks. Suddenly however, Jack Bruce again on stage - unless it was previously agreed - and from the gap filler is a twelve jam session that connects with the spectacular fireworks display an impressive music experience that nobody should miss, the sign up for the hard rock of 60s and 70s can inspire. –Albrecht Volk
