Hensley's Electric Jazz Band & Synthetic Symphonette is the 1969 debut album by The Masters Of Deceit. It was also their last record. They were a band from the American state of Indiana which featured Tom Hensley (keyboards and vocals), Steve Blum (guitar), Gary Campbell (bass and vocals), and Stan Gage (drums). This was released on Vanguard Records.
The hidden jewel of early US prog released on the Vanguard label in 1969! The band was led by keyboardist Tom Hensley who whips up some fine organ, piano and clavinet playing in counterpoint to Steve Blum's guitar solos. The music bears some superficial similarities to Hatfield & The North (but obviously predates them) and Frank Zappa in that there is a quirky humor that permeates their jazz derived prog rock. Some of the vocals are drenched in reverb reminding of early Pink Floyd. The standout is the 15 minute "Pieces/Together/Pieces".
