Of all the dance-punk revivalists, !!! has been the most consistently interesting and challenging, not to mention the group most likely to fill the dancefloor on indie rock night. While their previous album, the political and righteous Louden Up Now, was good enough to vault them to the level of the bands that inspired them (Gang of Four, the Pop Group, Liquid Liquid), Myth Takes firmly establishes them there. It's a different fire that burns here for !!!, mostly setting aside political concerns for fiery dancefloor rave-ups. The band sounds inspired, like they are plugged directly into a wall socket. The first three tracks are like opening a door and being blasted backward by a wall of flame and heat. Nic Offer's vocal chants, asides, and strung-together proclamations are more frantic than ever, and when he turns it down a notch, he sounds nearly sexy (as on "Must Be the Moon," a desperate story of sex and lust in the city)…

!!! could be lumped in with the other new wave dance-punk revivalists like the Rapture or Radio 4. That would be easy enough, as they all share an allegiance to the punky funk sounds of the '80s as pioneered by groups like Gang of Four, the Pop Group, Talking Heads, and others. Rather than merely lumping them in, maybe one could say they are leading the pack. Louden Up Now is easily the best record to come out of the movement; its ten tracks are filled with fervor, hooks, passion, and power. And unlike many of their peers, !!! have politics. Angry, righteous politics. Antiwar, anti-Giuliani, anti-Bush and Blair, and proud of it. It is like a blast of fresh retro air to have a band not just updating the sound but carrying over similar ideals as well…

"Mariah is the kind of band that moves from sharp, dissonant modern classical to anthemic hard rock to laid-back fusion to a bunch of other styles like it's no big deal. Like, to the point where I'm reminded of early Mr. Bungle. Speaking of Mariah, Carrie. It is common real music fans to answer so. But when I hear Mariah, it is the perfect music nerd that reminds me of Yasuaki Shimizu, Masanori Sasasuji, Hideo Yamaki. But I take the initiative to address this blog is possibly a daughter of a maniac? What? … So, the 80's J-Fusion's name group, Mariah's representative album "YEN TRICKS" and "AUSCHWITZ DREAM (Auschwitz Dream)" are the next group of Cassiopeia, T-Square, Prism, Parachute, It was relapsed with jacket specification"

In early 2013 !!! released one of their best albums, Thr!!!er, then followed it up in November with an EP collection of remixes of songs from the record and a previously unreleased song, too. They chose remixers who came back with a wide range of sounds. Maurice Fulton throws funky disco dust on top of "One Girl/One Boy," Anthony Naples revamps "Californiyeah" as experimental techno, and Patrick Ford ropes in rappers Main Attrakionz on his version of "Californiyeah" that takes !!! to uncharted waters. The song that wasn't on the album, "Broadway (Gimme the Lights On)," is a typically rubbery dance track that's given a fun redo by Jim Eno of Spoon and a pounding hip-house makeover by Romare. While none of the versions eclipse the originals, it's a nice addition to Thr!!!er that might supply a song or two to your next dance party mix.

Doesn't the beginning of "The Step" sound like Pink Floyd's "Run Like Hell"? Maybe. It does for a tic anyway, before vocalist Nic Offer starts emoting all cool over eight layers of bass, spidery guitar, horns, and drums that wait patiently for the break. And when that break finally arrives, it falls out of the verse like Franzia from silver Mylar. Party time, baby! Let's keep it going with the bass groove of "Hammerhead," or "KooKooKa Fuk-U"'s chattering cool-part-of-town disco. On this, their self-titled debut for Gold Standard Laboratories, !!! trash the axiom that says bands influenced by angular post-punk must be populated by dour misanthropes who sport wallet photos of Ian Curtis. "If you're looking for a friend/You can kiss my ass!" Offer declares on "KooKooKa Fuk-U," and encourages suicide for - wait for it - someone else…

The funky, post-punky, always danceable !!! show no signs of slowing down on their sixth album, As If. Their last record, Thr!!!er, lived up to its title and this record is all-thriller, no-filler too, jammed with songs that almost dare the listener not to dance. Recorded and produced by the band with help from James Ford, Jim Eno, Ewan Pearson, Chris Coady, and Chris Woodhouse, and culled from an intense session of songwriting done by driving force Nic Offer and bassist Rafael Cohen, the album was recorded in studios around America. Despite the various locales and collaborators involved, the album is focused and tight as it deals out pounding grooves and thundering basslines. Add in wire-tight guitar, wobbling old synths, and Offer's unhinged vocals and it's vintage !!! with a little extra energy added…

By the time of their fifth album, 2013's Thr!!!er, the dance punk revivalists with the funny name !!! had been playing their funky, gritty jams for more than a decade. Common wisdom might dictate that their best years were probably behind them at this point and they were all ready to start treading water, but that's not the case here at all. They are doing some serious gold medal-winning swimming instead. The album sounds amazing, with tightly wound and whip-smart production from Spoon's Jim Eno, and the band plays with a newfound loose and rubbery style that's warmer and more fun than anything they've done yet…
