Metal Blade has reissued two classic albums from progressive metal act Fates Warning. Disconnected, which was originally released in 2000 and FWX, which was originally released in 2004, have both been remastered for these reissues by Alan Douches and contain additional bonus tracks.
Fates Warning presents us here with their tenth album FWX, an album that still has some of the modern edge of Disconnected but with a mix of the classic Parallels album and A Pleasant Shade Of Gray and an overall heavier sound. FWX unlike more recent efforts, avoids the lengthy conceptual pieces instead, opting for more shorter and concise songs.

Very good work on guitars, a tight rhythm sectionand lots of keyboards effects the way only Fates Warning teached to play. Fates Warning frontman Ray Alder returns with his astonishing sophomore solo album entitled "II"! 9 melodic, yet modernly heavy new songs once again created with assistance from guitarists Mike Abdow (Fates Warning touring member) and Tony Hernando (Lords Of Black) as well as drummer Craig Anderson (Ignite, Crescent Shield). A very humble beginning for this excellent progressive band. Only a couple years removed from high school, they were strictly a metal band at this point, and "Damnation" is the only song that has remained in their catalog from this session. Early recordings such as this one are the reason their name conjures up the image of a metal band. This re-release contains a 1984 demo version of "Last Call," a live rendition of "Kiss of Death," and rehearsal recordings of "The Calling" and Iron Maiden's "Flight of Icarus."

"The styles of music we've written distinguish this record from the rest of our catalogue," states vocalist Ray Alder. "There are some songs with electronics and some with a nice ethereal feel, as well as some pretty straightforward grooves, at least for us. And there are also some pretty heavy songs. We tried to give the listener a host of different things to listen to, as opposed to an album where every song sounds the same." As such, the album is something of a rollercoaster ride, moving through various moods and making for perhaps their most vital release to date.
