Released in 2004 by Lester Radio Corporation (LRC Ltd.), Giants of the Organ Come Together brings together two of the absolute titan figures of the Hammond B-3 organ, Jimmy McGriff and Richard "Groove" Holmes, for a soul-jazz showcase originally recorded in the early 1970s. Mixed with distinct stereo separation—featuring McGriff on the right channel and Holmes on the left, flanked respectively by guitarists O'Donel Levy and George Freeman—the dual-organ summit delivers a masterclass in bluesy improvisation, deep grooves, and swinging hard-bop interplay. Backed by the iconic funk drum backbone of Bernard Purdie and percussionist Kwasi Jayourba, the sextet stretches out over blues jams like "Licks A' Plenty" and reinvented jazz standards like "How High the Moon" and "Out of Nowhere."
