Incognito is a mesmerizing, wildly eccentric avant-garde progressive rock masterwork by the enigmatic Slovenian ensemble Kapela La Chateliere, released in 1999 as a rare collector's artifact on TKM Records. Spanning 45 minutes across nine highly unpredictable movements, this high-fidelity archive serves as a phenomenal testament to the depth of Eastern European underground rock experimentation. The album showcases an extraordinary cross-pollination of genres, seamlessly weaving intricate, shifting Canterbury-style prog rock time signatures, heavy avant-garde jazz improvisations, and traditional Balkan folk sensibilities. Driven by the multi-instrumental synergy of Andrej Čopar's soaring saxophone and flute leads, Andrej Žibert's intricate percussion and guitar synthesis, Evgen Malis's dense synthesizer soundscapes and organic accordion flourishes, and the anchoring bass work of Matevž Gregorić, the group crafts a sonic landscape that is simultaneously jarring, cinematic, and deeply melodic. From the opening rhythmic complexity of Teza to the sweeping, epic 9-minute cornerstone Bez ‘armonike Nema…, the ensemble constantly defies expectations. Exceptionally preserved in pristine dual-format lossless and high-bitrate audio alongside full artwork scans, this incredibly rare artifact stands as an absolute holy grail for global avant-prog crate diggers and dedicated purists of obscure European progressive rock history.

London jazz-funk institution Incognito return with Music Magic Ironic, the 20th studio album in a career that began with Jazz Funk in 1981 and later drank the waters of eternal life with Talkin' Loud, released during the 90s acid-jazz tsunami. It dialyses veteran and new blood, echoing the historic heartbeat of bandleader Bluey Maunick's childhood memories of street musicians in Mauritius, where on-the-fly percussion blurred "music" and "magic". That formative mix still powers Incognito's ensemble ethos, brought into sharp focus here with 17 tracks voiced by long-time collaborators Joy Rose, Tony Momrelle and Maysa Leak, plus Zebulon Ellis and Natalie Duncan. The family-sized lineups remains unestranged, a trait going back to the group's early days when Richard Bull's drum programming and Maysa's arrival shaped their Talkin' Loud breakout.

This England-based dance and funk, but mostly jazz, band brings nothing but energy to this project. The production is sleek, and the arrangements are precise. Maysa Leak reaches her higher notes without abandoning the fullness of her unwavering lower range. Half of the songs on this album utilize her vocals, while the others are instrumentals. The instrumental tracks feature bebop-influenced solos, in particular "L'Arc en Ciel de Miles," which is an admirable tribute to the late famous jazz trumpeter. However, each song's solo is just as riveting as the next. The one constant on this album is the steady strum of bassist Randy Hope-Taylor. Contrary to the group's name, their music is anything but incognito – it's excellent and as conspicuous as ever.

Universal TV UK's Connected: '90s 12" Mixes features 36 cuts over three discs culled from the clove-smoked DJ bins of the mainstream '90s. Using the instantly recognizable four-note jam from the Stereo MC's as its impetus and lead-off cut, Connected collects all of the extended versions that listeners were duped into buying during the age of the CD-single, like eight minutes of the Soup Dragons' "I'm Free," a remix of Deee-Lite's "Groove Is in the Heart," and the bass loop version of Stone Roses' "Fools Gold," resulting in an overly long trip (pub crawl) down memory lane that would have been fine had it been streamlined into a single disc. Sadly, no drugs or light sticks are included.
