Recorded at Studio Ramsès and Studio Cargo in Paris and released by French label Night & Day in 1994, Meeting is an ambitious cross-cultural jazz synthesis conceived and led by French-Indian drummer, percussionist, and composer Ravy Magnifique. Gathering an extraordinary cross-generational ensemble of American jazz icons—including avant-garde tenor master Archie Shepp, post-bop star Chico Freeman, and virtuosic trombonist Glenn Ferris—the album fuses modern jazz improvisation with West African djembe rhythms, Indian tabla, kalimba textures, and chamber strings. From the hypnotic modal grooves of Song for Steph to Shepp's soulful, fiery saxophone work on 7.4.5 for Chico and the intimate duet title track, Meeting bridges modal post-bop, chamber arrangements, and world rhythm traditions.
