Jerry Goldsmith & VA - The Sum Of All Fears (Music From The Motion Picture) (2002)
    Label: Elektra | FLAC (image+.cue,log,scans) | 49:23 | 231.9 MB | 16 tracks
Genre: Soundtrack, Score, Cinematic, Modern Classical

On The Sum Of All Fears, the legendary Academy Award-winning composer Jerry Goldsmith delivers a sweeping, high-stakes, and deeply atmospheric masterclass in cinematic suspense. Released in 2002 by Elektra Records for Phil Alden Robinson's blockbuster political thriller, this soundtrack stands as a brilliant testament to Goldsmith's late-career genius, masterfully balancing pulse-pounding action cues with profoundly moving, elegiac motifs. The 16-track landscape operates with a heavy, continuous emotional gravity, perfectly encapsulating the global tension of the film. The score features stunning vocal centerpieces, highlighted by Yolanda Adams’s soaring, soulful performances on If We Could Remember, alongside an intense, beautifully layered rendition of Puccini's iconic Nessun Dorma performed by Bruce Sledge. Shifting fluidly from the frantic, electronic-backed orchestral percussion of Clear The Stadium and Real Time to quiet, chillingly beautiful modal strings, this archive remains an indispensable, high-fidelity monument for serious score collectors and soundtrack purists worldwide.

First Knight (Expanded Original Motion Picture Score) by Jerry Goldsmith is a grand and richly orchestrated work that perfectly captures the epic romance and heroic spirit of the Arthurian legend. Originally composed for the 1995 film, this expanded edition released in 2011 offers a more comprehensive listening experience, including additional material and alternate versions. Goldsmith’s score blends sweeping symphonic arrangements with intimate thematic passages, highlighting both the emotional depth and dramatic tension of the story. Majestic brass fanfares, lush string sections, and powerful percussion define the heroic moments, while softer cues emphasize romance and personal conflict. This release allows listeners to fully appreciate the composer’s meticulous craftsmanship and thematic development. It stands as one of Goldsmith’s most memorable film scores, appealing to both soundtrack enthusiasts and fans of orchestral music.

Intrada presents the long-sought after expanded edition of The Secret of NIMH (1982). While Intrada's previous edition was slightly expanded, it still came up short around 8 minutes of score due to missing elements. Since that previous release, MGM was able to locate the original 35mm stems that included their own stereo audio music tracks of everything as heard in the film. CD Producer Chris Malone took these new elements and blended them with the rest of the score to create the expanded program including all the bits for which collectors have been pining. As with Intrada's First Blood album, the first disc presents the score in film order, removing much of the album assembly that Goldsmith had prepared for the original album. Disc 2 includes Goldsmith's original album program as he assembled it to preserve all the creative decisions that he made. It's never sounded better. The CD features new cover art by Stéphane COËDEL and an additional Tech Talk by Roger Feigelson.

Based on the acclaimed Tom Clancy novel, the film stars Ben Affleck, Morgan Freeman and Liev Schreiber, and was directed by Phil Alden Robinson. This Goldsmith treasure returns to La-La Land Records better and bigger than ever in an all-new 2-CD presentation that unleashes the Maestro’s power in all of its brilliance. Striking themes and motifs abound in the composer’s powerhouse orchestral score, expertly weaving patriotism and hope with chilling dread and nail-biting suspense in equal measure – an undoubtedly important work from this iconic maestro’s final chapter.

In honor of its 40th Anniversary, Intrada presents an all-new edition of one of founder Doug Fake's personal favorite soundtracks. The score is not only an important part of Jerry Goldsmith's large body of work, but also Intrada's formative years. First Blood initially appeared as the inaugural release of the Film Music Treasury series, an early version of the Special Collection. In assembling that release, Goldsmith and engineer Len Engel re-sequenced the original Regency album and located one extra track not previously released, using the ¼″ two-track mixes made in 1982 for the LP. However, the ¼″ masters were plagued with an interesting anomaly: though identified with the widely-used professional Dolby A encoding process, they did not possess unique tones identifying the Dolby encoding that allows for calibration of playback machines.

Jerry Goldsmith’s iconic original score to Paramount Pictures’ 1979 feature film STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE boldly returns with a limited edition 2-CD re-issue from La-La Land Records and Paramount Music. The first big screen voyage of Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock was a high budget and ambitious undertaking that introduced Goldsmith’s famous and enduring Star Trek march (later used as the main theme for Star Trek: The Next Generation) as the cornerstone of an epic science fiction musical odyssey. Like the film’s refit starship Enterprise, La-La Land’s lavish 2012 restoration presented the score anew: fully restored, remixed and mastered from the first generation multi-track masters by Bruce Botnick, the original album co-producer and Goldsmith’s long time scoring engineer.

World premiere recordings of two elusive Jerry Goldsmith scores! Legendary composer creates his very first theatrical film score with Black Patch, low-key 1957 western for Warner Bros. with George Montgomery, Leo Gordon, Sebastien Cabot, Diane Brewster. Allen Miner directs, Gordon scripts, effective black & white photography by Edward Colman (of Mary Poppins fame.) Original session elements are missing in action, but happily Goldsmith’s manuscript scores survive unscathed, allowing full reconstruction of musician parts for all-new recording made in October 2021. Composer scores for standard orchestra but omits trumpets, lending finished work a brooding, darker edge. Extremely well-written music offers masterful architecture from the get-go, a Goldsmith trademark.

Continuing an exciting collaboration with filmmaker Joe Dante that launched with TWILIGHT ZONE: THE MOVIE and blossomed with GREMLINS, EXPLORERS and INNER SPACE, composer Jerry Goldsmith unleashed another wildly creative and notable score for the director’s hilarious, knowing suburban romp, THE ’BURBS. Goldsmith expertly balances the film’s rambunctious comedy, dark satire, suspense, action - and its heart too - with a bold orchestral work that sounds better than ever in this remastered and expanded presentation.

Explorers is a 1985 American science fantasy film written by Eric Luke and directed by Joe Dante. The film stars Ethan Hawke and River Phoenix, both in their film debuts, and Jason Presson as teenage boys who build a spacecraft to explore outer space. The special effects were produced by Industrial Light & Magic, with make-up effects by Rob Bottin. Rushed into production, the film was never properly finished. Dante revealed that the studio demanded that he stop editing and rush for a July release where it was overshadowed by the Live Aid concert, which was held one day after the film's release and stiff competition from Back to the Future, which opened nine days prior. It was a box office failure upon its release, but it attracted a cult following with its VHS release.

1979's The Great Train Robbery has long been one of Jerry Goldsmith's most unusual projects, both in terms of his overall output and in particular as one of his collaborations with filmmaker Michael Crichton. With the exception of The Great Train Robbery and The Thirteenth Warrior, all of the Goldsmith/Crichton collaborations (Pursuit, Coma, Runaway, Congo and Timeline) have fallen into the techno-thriller genre, and stylistically, the buoyant comic energy of The Great Train Robbery lies far afield of the darker-edged work that in general defined Goldsmith's career. For the film, Crichton adapted his own historical novel and cast Sean Connery as dashing Victorian criminal Edward Pierce. Goldsmith's score establishes the movie as a lighthearted romp from its opening downbeat and thereafter cheerfully varies between churning, steam locomotive drive and breezy elegance; the jaunty main title tune is unpredictable and boasts one of the best bridges Goldsmith ever wrote.
