Roger Waters is Pink Floyd's grand conceptualist, the driving force behind such albums as Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, and The Wall. In the wake of Syd Barrett's departure, Waters emerged as a formidable songwriter, but it's this stretch of '70s albums – each one nearly symphonic in its reach – that established him as a distinctive, idiosyncratic voice within rock, one with a sober morality and sardonic sense of humor.

This is a perfect example of an album that just flew below the radar like some stealth bomber, unseen and sadly, unheard. Kind of odd though as all the ingredients are there to enjoy, featuring a remarkable ivoryman in Max Hunt, a stellar guitarist in Nick Beere, rugged bass from Justin Tilbrook , a solid Tony Wells on the kit and , last but not least , Bob Leek the sensational vocalist that simply haunts throughout this brilliant record. His voice is somewhat close to the vocalist of 80s synth-pop band Naked Eyes, Peter Byrne.

British rockers Wishbone Ash gained fame in the 1970s for their twin-guitar attack and captivating blend of hard rock and progressive stylings. TENDER is a collection of tunes that showcase the softer side of the band's musical personality, including a number of latter-day tracks. Acoustic-tinged balladry and dynamics that veer towards the low end of the spectrum are the order of the day here, but if you want the harder stuff, check out this disc's companion release, entitled (what else?) TOUGH.

A unique band, Carmen combined flamenco music with progressive rock. Adding to their distinctiveness was the fact that during long instrumental passages, members of the band would dance on-stage, adding those sounds to the instrumental mix. Composed of Roberto Amaral (vocals, castanets), David Allen (guitar), his sister Angela Allen (keyboards), John Glascock (bass) – who later worked with Jethro Tull – and Paul Fenton (drums), Carmen's sound was focused on up-beat flamenco guitar with a strong rhythm section and subtle keyboards. Their first album, Dancing on a Cold Wind, was released in 1973 and featured the 23-minute epic "Remembrances (Recuerdos de Espana)." It was followed by Fandangos in Space in 1974. The quintet's final album was The Gypsies, released in 1975, a more restrained effort than previous releases.

This is not quite a live album. The selections are from four different BBC in-studio performances. So, even though the tracks were performed by the band as a whole, as opposed to multi-tracked, they are not in front of a live audience, other than the radio personnel…
