Recorded across Peasmarsh, Mumbai, Johannesburg, New York, and Philadelphia between 2000 and 2001, The Beat Of Love is world-percussion titan Trilok Gurtu's radiant celebration of cross-continental harmony. Produced by Level 42 founding member and synth innovator Wally Badarou, the album bridges Indian classical rhythmic structures and pop melodies with vibrant Sub-Saharan African traditions. Gurtu convenes an unmatched ensemble of international vocal powerhouses—including Beninese icon Angélique Kidjo, Malian griot Salif Keita, Senegalese singer Wasis Diop, Zap Mama's Sabine Kabongo, and Indian playback vocalist Roop Kumar Rathod—over intricate hybrid grooves of tabla, dholak, sitar, and modern electro-acoustic production. Highlights range from the joyous, infectious opener "Maya" to the exalted vocal tapestries of "Have We Lost Our Dream?" and the lush, meditative "Peace of the Five Elements".
