Kings of the Road captures Soho Orange at the peak of their short-lived career, recorded live in a Falkirk studio in 1971 under producer Jim West. These sessions reveal a band blending the thunderous riffs of Budgie with the mystique of Led Zeppelin, delivering a raw, authentic proto-metal sound. The rediscovered master tapes, over 50 years old, showcase tight musicianship, a commanding vocal performance, and songs celebrating drugs, women, and freedom. Few hard rock recordings of this era match the energy, authenticity, and edge of these sessions. With only a handful of comparable LPs produced during the early 1970s’ “Dark Age of Metal,” Kings of the Road is a rare and precious document of Scottish hard rock history, now finally available for collectors and enthusiasts.

Originally recorded in Scotland in 1971, this album never saw a release until 1991 on the same German label that gave us the first German Oak album. This is some very good early 70’s psych/hard rock somewhat in the Budgie vein though much sludgier. Unfortunately not much seems to be known about this group. One track is over 10 minutes, the other five clock in around 5 to 6 minutes. Obscure gem that will appeal to most lovers of early 70’s rock.
