"Madam Butterfly" is the 7th album by American soul/R&B group Tavares, produced by Bobby Martin and released in 1979 on the Capitol label. By this stage in the group's career, they had become known as a disco act due to successful singles such as "Heaven Must Be Missing an Angel", "Whodunit" and "More Than a Woman." However, Madam Butterfly is noted for its lack of anything approaching disco material, and, as such, is considered to be more akin in style to the group's 1973-'75 albums than to their '76-'78 Freddie Perren-produced output.

Every so often, a piece of music comes along that defines a moment in popular culture history: Johann Strauss' operetta Die Fledermaus did this in Vienna in the 1870s; Jerome Kern's Show Boat did it for Broadway musicals of the 1920s; and the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album served this purpose for the era of psychedelic music in the 1960s. Saturday Night Fever, although hardly as prodigious an artistic achievement as those precursors, was precisely that kind of musical phenomenon for the second half of the '70s – ironically, at the time before its release, the disco boom had seemingly run its course, primarily in Europe, and was confined mostly to black culture and the gay underground in America…

2016 collection containing remixes of five of the major hits by international hitmakers Tavares by top European remix producer Ben Liebrand, four of which achieved major British chart impact when issued in 1985 and 1986 as well as a US disco version of 'It Only Takes A Minute', making it's CD debut along with the Liebrand-penned instrumental 'One Minute'. From 1973 to 1981, the brothers Tavares - Ralph, Feliciano ("Butch") Arthur ("Pooch") Antone (Chubby) and Perry (Tiny) - recorded a treasure trove of great albums and singles for Capitol Records. In 1975, the group enjoyed it's first breakthrough hit with 'It Only Takes A Minute'; in 1976, the timeless classic 'Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel' became the team's first global smash followed by 'Don't Take Away The Music' also became an international dance music/pop and R&B chartmaker. In 1977, the Bee Gees-penned 'More Than A Woman' (from the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack) catapulted Tavares back into the worldwide charts as did 'Whodunit'.
