2009 compilation from the Liverpool-based Mersey Beat group who were originally the only real competition for the Beatles during their early days. The first popularity poll for Liverpool groups appeared in Mersey Beat in 1961. The Beatles were top, but as that magazine's contributor, Liverpool's top club DJ, Bob Wooler, pointed out, I excluded The Swinging Blue Jeans (then known as The Bluegenes) as they were beyond comparison and in a class of their own. The Swinging Blue Jeans were the epitome of the Mersey Beat sound and all that great group's best recordings can be found here. This album includes all of their greatest hits and much more besides. Hits include 'The Hippy Hippy Shake', 'Good Golly Miss Molly', 'You're No Good' and 'Don't Make Me Over' as well as 'Shakin' All Over', 'Tutti Fruiti', 'Lawdy Miss Clawdy' and 'Save the Last Dance For Me'.

One of several Liverpool pop groups to achieve international success in the sixties, the Swinging blue jeans were actually formed in 1958, when (acknowledging their hero, Gene Vincent), they called themselves the Bluegenes. They were already regular performers at the Cavern club when the Beatles made their debut in 1961 at that now-famous venue - indeed, the Beatles occupied the guest spot on their show…

The Swinging Blue Jeans were a four-piece 1960s British Merseybeat band, best known for their hit singles with the HMV label; "Hippy Hippy Shake", "Good Golly Miss Molly", and "You're No Good", issued in 1964. Subsequent singles released that year and the next made no impression…

Live aus dem Cascade Beat Club in Köln is one of the rarest albums by a hit British Invasion band released near the peak of its popularity. Its existence is unknown even to most Swinging Blue Jeans fans, and the material doesn't even appear on the otherwise thorough four-CD set of their 1960s recordings, Good Golly, Miss Molly! The EMI Years 1963-1969…

All of their U.K. and U.S. hits are included on this compilation. Highlights are "You're No Good," "Hippy Hippy Shake," and their fine (pre-Who) cover of Johnny Kidd's "Shakin' All Over," though even for the Anglophile, about half of this CD is forgettable, especially the dreary post-1966 stuff. This anthology includes several non-LP/rare singles and unreleased songs.
