The group Wond'rous Machine was founded in 2000 with some of the major names on the current Italian Early Music scene, including members of Il Giardino Armonico, Europa Galante, the Amsterdam Baroque, etc. Along with the legendary bass Max von Egmond, who has also specialized in Early Music and appeared on dozens of award-winning recordings, they perform six cantatas and chamber works by Telemann. The pieces were written between 1725 and 1730 after Telemann had settled in Hamburg and founded his Collegium Musicum, an organization dedicated to bringing fine music to an ever-growing circle of consumers. Although the technical difficulties of these works are relatively low, they are rich in effects and atmosphere.
