The Guana Batz are an English psychobilly band that was formed in 1982 in Feltham, Middlesex. It was one of the first psychobilly bands and is considered influential to its scene. The band is most well known for its frequent appearances at the Klub Foot, an early psychobilly club. This CD is a re-issue of the Guana Batz third album, from when the band was at the peak of their career. After 25 years at the top, Guana Batz still re-unites several times a year and headline festivals all over the world. The CD artwork contains informative sleeve notes and pictures. The Guana Batz are virtually Psychobilly-Royalty; being one of the first wave of original Psychobilly bands from the early 80s.
After the more pop oriented Loan Sharks, the Guana Batz returned to the classic sound of their first album. The band abandonned the sax and the keyboards and the covers come from the catalogue of Buddy Holly, Elvis and Baker Knight. In terms of cohesion, recording and songwriting, Rough Edges (which is by no means rough) is their absolute best album showing an accomplished band at the peak of its creativity that benefits of clean (but NOT polished) production. The band offers a solid mix of Psychobilly (Streetwise, Fight Back), wild Neo-Rockabilly (Love Generator, Open Your Mouth), Instrumental (Spy Catcher) and even an excellent jazzy number (Two Shadows). You won't find any filler here and even the construction of the album is perfect. If Held Down At Last was the revelation of a great band to a wide audience and Loan Sharks showed a band avid to explore new territories, Rough Edges was simply the album of a band in full mastery of its art.
