Featuring: Israel 'Cachao' López, Orlando 'Cachaíto' López, Alejandro 'El Negro' Vivar, Emilio Peñalver, Juan Pablo Miranda, Walfredo de los Reyes Jr., José Antonio Méndez, Chico O'Farrill, Richard Egües, Tata Güines, Joseíto Fernández, Guillermo Barreto, Gustavo Ta.
Although more than 25 years have passed since the disappearance of the great pianist, composer and arranger Pedro “Peruchín” Justiz, his personal piano style, of effortlessly mixing touches of North American jazz with the diverse genres of popular Cuban music, will never be forgotten.
This phenomenal triple-CD pays homage to the man and his art and brings together for the first time his essential piano recordings with groups throughout the Fifties and Sixties, as well as pieces on which he and his group accompany singers such as Julio César and Joseíto Fernández and others like those with the Riverside, Julio Gutiérrez and Chico O’Farrill orchestras. In all of the work he did, whether under his own leadership or as accompanist, Peruchín’s piano was always at the forefront.
The 34-page booklet contains many unpublished photos and material and tells the story of this legendary pianist who influenced fabulous pianists as Eddie Palmieri, Papo Lucca, Chucho Valdés and many others.
“Pedro 'Peruchin' Justiz was probably to Latin piano playing what Charlie Parker was to saxophone playing. Everyone from Eddie Palmieri to Chucho Valdes has been influenced by the innovations and style of this genius.”
