The Queers - An Incomplete Discography (1982-2032) «All Fools' Day Release»

The Queers - An Incomplete Discography (1982-2032) «All Fools' Day Release»
The Queers are an American Punk Rock band formed in 1982, in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The Queers play pop punk as it was originally intended. Raw, fast with infectious beats and catchy, light lyrics. Technically, they play a Ramones-derived style of Punk Rock. Much like the Ramones, common lyrical themes are girls, idiots, alcohol and having fun. Musically the band deviates slightly from the driving rhythm guitar sound of the Ramones and intensify their songs with bubblegum vocal harmonies, handclaps, keyboards and melodic guitar solos. Their style a multiple times has been described as "The Ramones meets The Beach Boys". The band also well known for the variety of cover versions they include on their records and in live appearances. Consistently touring the USA, Europe, Japan and Australia the Queers have gained a large cult following in the punk underground. Today, The Queers have remains the last active group from the "Holy Trinity of Old School Pop Punk"…

The 'gold' line-up: Barnard - King - O'Neill

Singer/Guitarist/Songwriter Joe King (A.K.A. Joe Queer) has been the principal member of the group, with a vast number of musicians cycling in and out of the band over the years. Supposedly, the band name 'Queers' was used simply to poke fun at what he called the "Art Fag" community in NH. That same brand of humor and inanity has become a staple of The Queers music, who have produced songs such as "Ursula Finally Has Tits", "Born To Do Dishes", and "I Can't Get Invited To The Prom" in their own Ramones-esque style. ♪ Some of their songs border on sexism and homophobia, but they are simply too goofy and good-natured to mean any harm with their left-back-four-grades, dumb-ass shtick. While some punk rock bands attempt to use their music to impart a social or political message, King has made it clear that The Queers exist simply to play punk rock for the fun of it. ♫ Ben Weasel of Screeching Weasel frequently collaborates with Joe Queer to write their songs. Along with his casual acquaintance Ben Weasel, Joe King has criticized the re-emergence of the street punk scene and what he sees as the glorification of violence and class warfare by certain bands. The song, "Little Rich Working Class Oi Boy" from the album 'Beyond the Valley of the Assfuckers' takes aim at the working class pretensions and bellicose attitudes of some members of the Oi! scene. In a 2005 post to The Queers official website, King criticizes the effect of Boston punk band, the Dropkick Murphys. Writes King, "With all this stupid fucking Irish/Dropkick BS these days the whole punk scene (what's left of it) is full of assholes that just wanna fight".

The Queers - An Incomplete Discography (1982-2032) «All Fools' Day Release»

A long-running, Felix the Cat obsessed pop-punk act from New Hampshire, legendary The Queers have always embraced this implied criticism, proud to emulate the band that vocalist Joe (King) Queer venerates above all others. Formed in New Hampshire, USA, in 1982, the band's original line-up comprised King, Wimpy, and Tulu, though this incarnation was soon superseded by the classic line-up of vocalist/guitarist King, bass player B-Face, and drummer Hugh O'Neill, although second guitarists came and went frequently (including occasional co-writer JJ Rassler). The band begun with a notoriety primarily in their own backyard, but after the release of their proper Lookout Records LP - "Love Songs", their fame following grew to international proportions. Early, initial recordings comprised limited singles and compilation tracks (later collected as "A Day Late And A Dollar Short"), before the first full-length album "Grow Up", which was initially released on a small English label called Shakin' Street, and promptly went belly up after only 1,000 copies were pressed. Screeching Weasel frontman Ben Weasel got Lookout label owner Larry Livermore to sign the Queers, and in 1993 Lookout Records released the Ben Weasel-produced "Love Songs for the Retarded", recorded by legendary punk engineer Mass Giorgini (They have collaborated with Mass Giorgini several times since). It was a punk album very much in the mould of their heroes The Ramones.

Having now signed to a viable label, after the classic "Love Songs", was followed by a yearly salvo of bubblegum punk, from 1994's furious "Beat Off" to 1996's magnum opus "Don't Back Down". "Rocket To Russia" featured a tribute/re-recording of the Ramones '1977 classic. "Surf Goddess" EP was a collection of covers. "Suck This" captured the band's live performance perfectly, with some assistance from members of Screeching Weasel. Releases followed while the band toured with the Ramones, Rancid and Dick Dale. "Move Back Home" was among the best, containing enough Beach Boys pop moments to lift it above the average, but "Don't Back Down", the best late-'70s-era Ramones album which the Ramones never recorded, was on the peak of that period, and probably appeared to be best from pop punk anthems of the 90s.

The Queers went through various lineups as King remained the only constant. Hugh O'Neill left the band to fight unsuccessfully against brain cancer (he's died on January 21, 1999); B-Face was next who left to join The Groovy Ghoulies. Joe King signing with Hopeless Records, and released the EP, recorded with members of The Guts, and optimistic titled "Everything O.K.". The new album, "Punk Rock Confidential" saw another line-up changes. "Later Days and Better Lays" was issued of spring '99, and assembled unreleased Queers material recorded in the early 90s. 2000's "Beyond the Valley…" marked the first studio album since O'Neill's death and, somewhat fittingly, was a relatively darker album than the rest of the band's prior catalog. Also, Joe King reunited with the other original Queers (Wimpy & Tulu) to record the "Livin' La Vida Loco" EP under the name The Drunken Cholos. A string of releases followed in the early 2000s, including the "Today EP", "Live In West Hollywood", and bright "Pleasant Screams", which was a welcome return to form. The band once again matching buzzsaw punk guitars to Beach Boys-style harmonies to positive effect, and demonstrating their consistent ability to churn out three-minute punk epics. A split with Manges "Acid Beaters" appeared in 2003, and the re-recorded classics collection "Summer Hits, Vol. 1" was issued the next fall. Recorded live during a two-day stint at Bernie's Distillery in Columbus, OH, the Queers next released the aptly titled live album "Weekend at Bernie's" in May 2006. The record featured King joined by Teen Idols' Philip Hill on bass and Dave Trevino on drums. In February 2007, via Asian Man Records, The Queers released Munki Brain, their first album of new material since 2002, continued their "heavy" Beach Boys sound. That same year, Asian Man began reissuing several of the band's classic albums (remixed and remastered), starting with undecayable "Love Songs for the Retarded".., and the reissues continued into 2007. The band commemorated their 25th year of immaturity with the DVD "The Queers Are Here", which was chock-full of live footage, interviews, and music videos. In 2009 was released their next DVD "Alive In Hollyweird", that shoted the show in L.A. from Summer 2007. Currently, they've already finished the recording of an new album.
