The Fast Hands Band - Headful of Vices (2020)

Since its inception in 2013, the Fast Hands Band has morphed from a blues trio into one of West Michigan’s best live music outfits focused on getting audiences out of their seats and onto the dance floor. Pulling inspiration from the greats of blues, rock, jazz, funk and soul, these talented musicians have a genre-bending attitude which they bring to every rendition of well-known classics and more obscure deep tracks. The group is passionate about honoring bygone eras while bringing a fresh and exciting sound to timeless grooves and heart wrenching ballads.

In November of 2019, the Fast Hands Band is proud to announce the release of their first EP titled “Headful of Vices” which pushes the band past single genres into a unique musical space. This EP presents the band’s first foray into original compositions and showcases the variety of influences of the band’s talented musicians. The Fast Hands Band is fronted by the soaring vocals of Alicia Scott whose sultry and powerful voice turns heads as her operatic background lends a unique styling to the jazz, blues, funk, and soul adventures of the group. Her Coloratura soprano is effortlessly balanced by the ethereal background vocals of the talented and versatile percussionist Toni Sperlbaum. Their rich harmonies are a signature of the group’s sound.

The band is led by Greg Sperlbaum whose clockwork drumming, versatility, and performance experience allow the band to seamlessly transition through musical genres and styles. Combined with Greg’s framework, bassist John Miller provides the funk and the soul at the heart of the Fast Hands Band. John’s silky smooth “pocket” style of playing provides the perfect foundation which allows the group to explore and expand while maintaining the essential groove that keeps audiences moving. With John and Greg locked in together, keyboardist Aaron Humphrey can set the mood ranging from a delicate piano, a funky Rhodes, a warbly Wurly, or a blow-the-doors-off organ. Throw in the incendiary and virtuosic blues guitar work of Mr. Andrew VerLee who can masterfully merge the styles of blues legends with his own musical prowess, and the Fast Hands Band becomes a powerful creative force.
