One of our Albums Of The Year back in 2015, Will Samson’s Ground Luminosity was a delicate and brooding beast, an inspired concoction of tender vocals and swelling electronic ambiance that stirred something magical within those that found their way to it. Wonderful news then that Samson today returns with “Welcome Oxygen“, the first track to be heard from his brand new album of the same name which will be released on 8th of September, via Talitres.Tracklist:
Written, forcefully and freely, during a turbulent fortnight which found Samson waiting for a flight to take him from Portugal back to the UK, following an accident “that resulted in two broken teeth, unexplained blackouts and two days in Lisbon hospital”, the new albums finds Samson moving away from the electronic templates of his previous album, the eight tracks that make-up “Welcome Oxygen” largely constructed from guitar, voice, and strings.
Exemplified beautifully in the new video, which we’re very pleased to unveil today, Samson’s new sound is an exquisite soundscape regardless of the instruments that helped piece it together. His vocals, bruised but exquisitely focused, now act as chief character, the subtle weave of instrumentation happy to slink in the background, the most dedicated shadow, save for the moments where those beautiful, arching strings swell with magnificent grace.
Joined by a video that is every bit as captivating as the song itself, the whole thing makes for a most-welcome return; a stunning piece of work, sculpted from trepidation but resonating more with each passing moment.
