National Instruments (NI), the provider of solutions that enable engineers and scientists to solve the world’s greatest engineering challenges, announced the launch new release of LabVIEW 2020 system design software.

LabVIEW 2020 Readme - Date: March 2020

The following items are notable issues fixed between the release of LabVIEW 2019 SP1 and LabVIEW 2020, including additional patches and service packs. This is not an exhaustive list of issues fixed in the current version of LabVIEW 2020.

917628 LabVIEW Runtime Engine encounters Worker Thread Limit when using web services on Linux RT-based cRIO.
931175 EXE including 'Std Deviation and Variance' VI is unloadable.
984819 Incorrect behavior when using a Boolean control from the System palette.
984834 LabVIEW Application Builder fails to build a Source Distribution on Windows when using some specific vi.lib VIs that contain non-Windows components.
984861 When making multiple calls to Python function in a For Loop, the Python execution treats the passed data as a list, rather than a NumPy array.
985551 Hovering over an override method in the Project Explorer does not show parent class description if the VI has empty description.
985552 Special characters (\r, \n, etc.) are not correctly converted to JSON when using LabVIEW Web services.
985554 Calling a Channel Write VI by reference in a loop results in a compiler error.

LabVIEW was first launched 1986 as a tool for scientists and engineers to facilitate automated measurements - the aim was that it would be a tool that would be as productive for scientists and engineers as spreadsheets were for financial analysts. The name LabVIEW is a shortened form of its description: Laboratory Virtual Instrument Engineering Workbench.

LabVIEW provides a powerful platform for undertaking a wide variety of different applications. It started as an environment for managing test programming, but since its inception, the applications for which it can be used have considerably expanded. It has expanded from being a graphical test management language to become a graphical system design environment.

This means that it can be used for an enormous variety of interesting and diverse applications. Not only can it be used for equipment control (including the control of the large Hadron Collider at CERN) and a variety of data acquisition applications (including car development simulation where Big Data monitoring is undertaken) to the system design arena where it has been used for development of projects from RF circuitry to biomedical equipment, green technology and much more.
