The HEEDS Design Exploration Team at Siemens Digital Industries Software, has released HEEDS MDO 2404.0. The release brings significant enhancements that accelerate your product development processes.
What's new in HEEDS 2404
In this release, HEEDS Team have significantly enhanced three key pillars of the HEEDS technologies, namely remote execution, re-use of data, and portals. These technologies improve productivity and reliability of HEEDS automation for your engineering design tasks.
Our remote execution has been improved to effectively manage network instabilities, increase security, and offer even greater flexibility in customization and troubleshooting. We’ve made gatewaying to your intended hardware faster, more seamless, while ensuring you can have even greater confidence in the security of doing so.
It is now also easier and faster to combine and re-use data coming from different studies and projects thanks to a considerable performance enhancement of the Find Designs capability. Re-using data is now simpler and smoother than ever before.
Now our Linux users can also enjoy a cross-platform authoring and tagging capability, where Windows resources can be leveraged seamlessly for parsing tools not available on the Linux resource where HEEDS resides. This combined with continuous improvements to our existing portals and a new engineering costing tool portal, SEER, brings even greater flexibility to how you use your favorite CAD, CAE tools with HEEDS.
HEEDS 2404 also offers several other new features and updates that continue to streamline design space exploration. We are confident that these updates will help you to continue to drive innovation in product development and discover better designs, faster!
Note: For the full list of new and improved features, please refer to the release notes located in the folder of your HEEDS 2404.
MISCELLANEOUS MDO FIXES AND ENHANCEMENTS
[Bug 3830] Importing studies from unsaved projects was not possible
In the past releases, when running a study and experiencing a crash of the user interface, the solver was continuing the study execution. However, if the project was not saved before the study start, it was not possible to re-import the computed results of the study when the project was reopened. This is now fixed, and studies results from unsaved projects can be imported correctly even after a crash of the user interface.
[Bug 12551] An error was raised when using Find Design to rebuild a study without response
In the previous versions, when using Find Design with studies that had no responses or whose responses are not tagged was leading to a build error of the new study. This is now fixed, and Find Design works as expected even with studies without responses.
[Bug 12552] Find Design was not working properly for studies other than optimization
In the previous releases, Find Design was sometimes crashing when used to build from design of experiments or evaluation only studies. This is now fixed and Find Design works as expected with all the studies.
[Bug 12902] Find Design was not working properly for studies containing loops
In the previous releases, Find Design was not working properly when the process associated to the study contained loops. This is now fixed and Find Design works as expected also with loops.
MISCELLANEOUS SOLVER FIXES AND ENHANCEMENTS
[Bug 15100] Execution order was sometimes not respected in presence of loops
In the previous version, when using processes that have loops, the execution order of the analyses was not respected, leading to a study failure. This is now fixed, and the correct execution order is retained also in presence of loops in the process.
[Bug 14823] Folders connected as inputs from another analysis were not copied to a remote machine analysis
When a folder is listed as input of one analysis and coming from a previous analysis, the normal behavior is that the folder is copied in the new analysis. However, this was not happening in case the receiving analysis was on a remote machine. This is now fixed and folders are correctly copied also to analyses on remote machines.
MISCELLANEOUS PORTAL AND TAGGING FIXES AND ENHANCEMENTS
[Bug 14828] Erroneous message shown when importing input files with JMAG portal
In the previous version, when importing a .jproj file in the JMAG portal, an error message was visualized although no actual errors occurred and the file could be tagged and executed properly. This erroneous message has now been fixed and it is not showing anymore.
[Bug 14627] Simcenter STAR-CCM+ Portal wrongly tried to run an empty macro field as NONE
In the past releases, due to a special user interface setting, the Simcenter STAR-CCM+ Portal was wrongly trying to run a macro named “None”, when “None” was a user interface setting. This is now fixed, and no macro is run when the macro field is set to “None”.
MISCELLANEOUS REMOTE EXECUTION FIXES AND ENHANCEMENTS
[Bug 5719] Various issues with job controller
In the past releases, several issues with job controller were experienced. In particular:
1. Anomalous start of designs even in presence of the “parallel execution” option turned on
2. Could not recognize completion of local Simcenter STAR-CCM+ simulations
3. Maximum execution time for Simcenter STAR-CCM+ simulation was not respected
4. The manual “terminate analysis” option in the “Run” panel did not work
All these anomalies have been resolved and the job controller behaves as expected in all the cases above.

Simcenter HEEDS - Automated Design Exploration Enables Multi-Objective AM Part Optimization
For many companies, design for AM extends no further than structural topology optimization—developing the lightest weight part within a design envelope to meet structural load requirements. The problem is, most parts must fulfill a host of engineering and business objectives, from fluid flow, thermal and vibration requirements to cost demands. It’s one thing to optimize a part for one objective, but how can you optimize for several objectives all at once—while meeting your deadline?
