Legendary animator Tezuka Osamu is responsible for much of the popular imaginings of Japanese culture. A trained doctor, his passion for illustration led him to the world of serialized comics, or "manga", and the overnight success of titles such as "Jungle Emperor Leo" and "Tetsuwan Atomu" in turn led to the screen.
Tezuka's distinctive drawing style has become renowned worldwide as the characteristic anime style, and his television series such as "Astro Boy" and "Kimba The White Lion" have been welcomed into the homes of millions.
