Autodesk has released Alias Products 2024.0. This release introduces several new features, fixes, and improvements, and addresses many customer-reported crashes and issues.
Alias 2024 What's New - Date: June 23, 2023
The first thing you will notice with the Alias release is the new look and feel. There has been a major overhaul of the Alias user experience. This new user experience aids in learnability for new users of Alias, while still maintaining the familiar Alias DNA that our long-time users have grown to appreciate. Developing this new user experience took a significant amount of time. This release also offers other very useful features:
- A new onboarding screen with links to the Help system and Help videos
- New markup and animation editors for improved collaboration and presentation
- The ability to easily place features onto curved surfaces
- A better method to give control over the curvature at the end of a surface
Modeling
- Fixed an issue that caused surface fillets to disappear after adding more input surfaces in certain cases.
- In the Duplicate Object Control window, pressing Tab now moves to the next input field as expected. ALS-15572
- Fixed an issue that caused fillets created as chained fillets to fail edge criteria in some cases. ALS-7946
- The 3D-Trimming option in the Trim tool has been reverted to its behavior prior to Alias 2023. ALS-5288
- Fixed an issue that caused bounding box sizes on some input geometry to be inaccurate. ALS-13071
- The Curve Curvature locator no longer changes the Max/Min Radius values after switching the camera from perspective view to orthographic view for imported IGS circle geometry. ALS-5977, ALSO-6064.
- You can now access the Degree and Spans options in the Control Panel to edit point and blend curves as expected. ALS-5545
- Resolved an issue with Blend Curves that caused history updates to fail. ALSO-7048
- Resolved a crash caused by using the Subdiv Insert Edge tool to insert perpendicular edges (Insert Mode set to Perpendicular) in certain cases. ALSO-5788
- Fixed an issue with the Surface Fillet tool that caused all created fillet surfaces to be deleted after deselecting one fillet input surface when the Query Edit tool is active. ALS-17029
- After query editing a fillet result, you can now add or remove input surfaces again without issues. ALSO-5771
- Fixed an issue that caused some tools, including Freeform Blend, Draft, and Rolled Edge, to not properly work with trimmed edges in specific cases. Correct edge alignment is now possible. ALSO-4792
- The Create Trim option in the Surface Offset tool no longer generates incorrect trim curves. ALSO-5664
- Layers now display as active in the Layer Bar after they are created. ALSO-7854
- Fixed an issue that caused subdiv object trimming results to be different based on how the object was created. ALS-15785
- New blend curves now get created with improved shape optimization and spiral shapes are no longer unexpectedly generated. ALSO-4790
- Performing Zero Transforms on grouped objects created on a construction plane no longer deletes construction history. ALSO-4650
- Resolved a crash related to moving the Dynamic Section tool manipulator. ALSO-4796
- Degree and Spans information now displays in the Control Panel when creating an Edit Point Curve. ALS-17080
- When subdivision modeling, the warning that construction history is to be deleted now only displays if the subdivision operation modifies input data, such as on an active objective with construction history. ALS-4753
- Geometric normals no longer get inverted when mirroring geometry (Edit > Duplicate > Mirror). ALSO-6631
- Geometric normals no longer get inverted when mirroring geometry across a center line using Edit > Duplicate > Mirror. ALSO-6631
- Fixed an issue that caused a surface to be unexpectedly duplicated when undoing a CV transformation done by the Transform CV tool. This only happens in very specific situations. ALSO-4747
Performance
- Performance is no longer affected when working with the Information Window open. ALSO-4795
- Resolved Duplicate Object performance issues. ALS-16842
Data Transfer
- You can now import .edf files into Alias as expected. ALSO-5182
- Resolved NX file import issue. Alias now supports reading of NX 2212 series files. ALS-17076
- Importing CATIA V5 files with Materials/Fill Colors set to Fill Colors to HW Shaders and with Convert Curves and Convert Nurbs turned on, now only creates shaders for object fill colors as expected. ALSO-5103
- Fixed a CATIA V5 export issue that caused invisible objects to be translated to visible objects despite Export Invisible being on in the Export Options. ALSO-4779, ALSO-4795
- Turning on Tessellate in the FBX Save As options now generates tessellation data for surfaces as expected. ALS-17150, ALSO-4749
- When Assign Shaders to Geom. Sets Only is on, all of the assigned Alias hardware shaders are now translated to CATIA V5 materials regardless of other export settings. ALSO-4734
Dynamo
- The Dynamo Surface.FlipNormalDirection node now works as expected. ALSO-4762
- Resolved an issued that caused spheres created and trimmed in Dynamo to be untrimmed when sent to Alias. AlSO-5205
- The Dynamo Curve.Reverse node now works as expected. ALSO-4766
- The Dynamo Node Surface.ToNurbsSurface now has an additional boolean input option named limitSurface. When you set it to false, trimmed surfaces are no longer reduced to their minimal active region. ALSO-4798, ALSO-5311
- Dynamo Player scripts with option dropdown lists no longer unexpectedly refresh results when the dropdown is opened and closed, even if the value hasn't been changed. ALS-16875
