Lie Groups

Lie Groups by Daniel Bump
English | PDF | 2004 | 462 Pages | ISBN : 1441919376 | 41 MB

This book aims to be a course in Lie groups that can be covered in one year with a group of good graduate students. I have attempted to address a problem that anyone teaching this subject must have, which is that the amount of essential material is too much to cover. One approach to this problem is to emphasize the beautiful representation theory of compact groups, and indeed this book can be used for a course of this type if after Chapter 25 one skips ahead to Part III. But I did not want to omit important topics such as the Bruhat decomposition and the theory of symmetric spaces. For these subjects, compact groups are not sufficient. Part I covers standard general properties of representations of compact groups (including Lie groups and other compact groups, such as finite or p adic ones). These include Schur orthogonality, properties of matrix coefficients and the Peter-Weyl Theorem.

Topology for Physicists by Albert S. Schwarz
English | PDF | 1994 | 299 Pages | ISBN : 3642081312 | 32.6 MB

This volume, written by someone who has made many significant contributions to mathematical physics, not least to the present dialogue between mathematicians and physicists, aims to present some of the basic material in algebraic topology at the level of a fairly sophisticated theoretical physics graduate student.

Arithmetic and Geometry Around Galois Theory by Pierre DèbesMichel Emsalem
English | PDF | 2013 | 411 Pages | ISBN : 3034804865 | 4.24 MB

This Lecture Notes volume is the fruit of two research-level summer schools jointly organized by the GTEM node at Lille University and the team of Galatasaray University (Istanbul): "Geometry and Arithmetic of Moduli Spaces of Coverings (2008)" and "Geometry and Arithmetic around Galois Theory (2009)". The volume focuses on geometric methods in Galois theory. The choice of the editors is to provide a complete and comprehensive account of modern points of view on Galois theory and related moduli problems, using stacks, gerbes and groupoids. It contains lecture notes on étale fundamental group and fundamental group scheme, and moduli stacks of curves and covers. Research articles complete the collection.
