Ce Journal d'un homme désespéré (traduction littérale du titre original), tenu entre mai 1936 et octobre 1944 par Friedrich Reck-Malleczewen, est le plus manifeste des écrits de cet " émigré de l'intérieur " : il s'y insurge ouvertement et crûment contre un régime qu'il exècre, crie la haine que les nazis lui inspirent et sa honte devant ce qu'ils font de l'Allemagne et des Allemands. Incroyable de prescience, il annonce que la défaite est inéluctable. Arrêté pour ne pas avoir accepté de s'enrôler dans la Volkssturm, il est emprisonné puis interné à Dachau où il meurt en janvier 1945.
