    Seit Menschengedenken standen in unseren Wäldern die Lärchenbäume nicht so hoch im Preis als zur Zeit des Eisenbahnbaues durch das Tal. Mein Vater verkaufte an die dreißig Stämme um schöne Banknoten. Aber er gab die schönen Banknoten bald wieder weg, zuweilen gar eher, als er sie hatte. Er nahm beim Krämer Mehl und Salz, und sagte: "Sobald ich Geld vom Holzhändler krieg, kriegt Ihr's von mir." Zuletzt sagte er dasselbe sogar den Steuerbeamten.
