    Karl Stegger var stor og rund, men på film spillede han den lille mand. Den rolle havde han lært af livet, opvokset som han var på bunden af Danmark. Faren skred, inden sønnen blev født, moren døde tidligt. 10 år gammel måtte Karl lære tilværelsens ubarmhjertighed at kende, alene i verden på et børnehjem lidt uden for Aarhus.
