During World War Two, the Blohm und Voss Company built submarines for the Kriegsmarine and flying boats for the Luftwaffe, but its contribution in numbers of aircraft produced was to be insignificant.
Although the company had no produced land based airplanes, in May 1943 contracts for the manufacture of flying boats ceased.
After the defeat of the Reich in the Battle of the Atlantic and the cancellation of the gigantic 100-ton BV 222, the company was forced to recycle itself in order to compete with the big manufacturers for the few engines available.
Between 1933 and 1945 the design team led by Dr. Richard Vogt proposed to the Oberkommando der Luftwaffe 215 projects of unorthodox airplanes, although only a few of them ever materialized into prototypes and none reached the stage of serial production.
