No matter how sound and accurate a book, it can never be a satisfactory substitute for a well trained and competent human coach. And so, primarily, this book has been designed as a ‘visual memory’ for pupils studying Aikido under the direction of an instructor. However, Aikido instructors are hard to find and, if this is the case in your own area, then we hope that the book will at least enable you to get some practical experience of the sport, until more instructors become available.
