After 20 great years together, Glenn and Susan found their lives turned upside down on January 23, 2008. They heard the dreaded words from Susan's surgeon, "It is cancer." It was quite a year and quite a journey from that day forward, but they made it through the first year. The next year on January 23 they decided to celebrate and look for a puppy. They realized that they had spent way too much time at their jobs working, and too little time enjoying life. Heffy the bull wiener arrived that May, and life has never been the same. It's never been better!

Looking back at her career as a statistician on a medical research team, Susan has many fond memories of the delightful students she taught, as well as the great colleagues and intriguing projects - but it is the memories of the past six years that are truly the best ones. Heffy and Glenn are at the center of those memories. Heffy still has the patients that he visits: the little boy with Crohn's disease, the older lady with Parkinson's, an older man who broke his hip, a lady who had a stroke and can't speak, and an older lady who broke her pelvis. And his list of tricks to make them all laugh has grown exponentially! Heffy is always waiting in the car whenever there is a trip back to the cancer hospital for blood work or a followup scan. He always brings his soccer ball wherever he goes, so it is beside him on the seat while he leans on the dashboard, waiting patiently for a glimpse of Susan and Glenn heading back to the car - back to him, their favorite boy, so that he can do more of his wonderful therapy work! Laughter is the best medicine - and even more so when it's laughter with a funny bull wiener!

This year to commemorate the sixth anniversary of her cancer diagnosis, Susan and Glenn decided to give back to charity, but they wanted it to be related to cancer somehow. She has been writing book reviews of animal cancer books for Bailey's Library on www.kaliswish.com. So, giving back to Kali's Wish Cancer Foundation was their top choice! Their e-book, Always Remember, is a celebration of dogs they know - a simple yet powerful book, meant to remind readers of all the things dogs teach those around them - the funny things, the adventurous things, the loveable things and the unforgettable things - all with photos to match and make you smile.

Always Remember shows how dogs hold a special place in the hearts of their owners - and most importantly, that they will always be remembered no matter what.
