This course is committed to fundamentally breaking away from the traditional teaching approach that relies on rote memorization of idioms. It aims to build a solid bridge for Chinese learners into the world of Chinese idioms and systematically enhance their ability to understand and use these expressions authentically. We fully understand that for international students, idioms are far from being simple four-character combinations; they are cultural codes rich with historical allusions, profound philosophical wisdom, and vivid glimpses of daily life. They represent a crucial step towards advanced proficiency in Chinese.

Therefore, this course will carefully select 20-30 of the most frequent and practical core idioms, such as "drawing a snake and adding feet" (overdoing something), "playing the lute to a cow" (addressing the wrong audience), and "when water flows, a canal is formed" (things happen naturally when conditions are ripe). We will replace dull vocabulary list memorization with "story-guided" and "scenario-immersive" teaching methods. Through engaging explanations of allusions, short videos, in-class role-playing, and case discussions closely linked to real-life situations, learners will be guided to naturally acquire the precise meaning, appropriate context, emotional nuance, and deep cultural background of each idiom within specific, authentic contexts.

The course places a strong emphasis on "applying knowledge in practice," creating a complete learning cycle from input to output.
